Welcoming guests with specific dining choices can sometimes be a challenge. But if you don’t mind experimenting in the kitchen, maybe not! I was obliged to prepare a snack! I decided on a beet tikki or beet kebab recipe.
Whether you’re vegan or not, beetroot is a superfood in its own right for all food lovers. I have.
Beets are rich in protein, carbohydrates, fats, amino acids, fatty acids, plant sterols, minerals, fiber, and phytonutrients, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service. These are empowering to be beneficial for antioxidants, anti-tumours, body function, chronic metabolomics activity, and more, citing his 2021 study in the Food Science and Nutrition Journal.
Recommended for those who are curious about how to use beets! Beet tikki has this naturally beautiful crimson color that makes even the platter look appealing and interesting. So on World Vegan Day, let me share a recipe for quick and healthy beet sticks for vegans!
How to make beet tikki
This recipe makes about 20-25 small tikki that you can serve to your vegan friends! But I keep it simple. Grate it raw and cook it for a hassle-free recipe!
material
1 medium beet or 2 small beets (peeled and finely grated)
3 large potatoes (boiled and mashed)
4 teaspoons olive oil
chopped coriander
1 chopped onion
salt
chart masala
garam masala
Amchar
pepper
procedure
1. Heat a frying pan and add 3 teaspoons of olive oil.
2. Add the grated beetroot over low heat. Cook for 5-10 minutes.
3. Add mashed potatoes, chopped onions and cilantro.
4. Season with salt, chaat masala, garam masala, amchur and pepper.
5. Mix these ingredients well so that the deep red color of the beets adds color to the thin potatoes!
6. Set this mixture aside to cool slightly.
7. When cool enough, form round flat balls or tikki shapes. Try to keep the size constant. (Tip: To make tikki easier, apply a little olive oil to your palm.)
8. Take a flat non-stick pan, add a teaspoon of olive oil, place a batch of beet tickies and cook over slow heat until brown.
9. If you like it crunchy, dip the tickeys in a mixture of cornflour and water, roll in breadcrumbs and fry.
10. Serve hot with coriander or mint chutney!
