However, “when measured by the isometric test, there was no improvement in the muscular endurance of the torso.”

According to Genatost, a physiotherapist in the rehabilitation and human performance department of Mount Sinai, who spoke with NBC News, she recommends starting with a weightless hoop and proceeding to a hula hoop weighing less than two pounds. She also recommends using a hula hoop of 20 minutes or less per exercise session.
