Weight loss is difficult enough, but it can lead to failure without the right kind of support. A retired civil servant, Doris Cairns, 64, from Seghill, Northumberland, lost her husband, Mick, in November 2020. As a result, she lost four stones.
Regarding her weight loss journey, Doris said:
“I felt sluggish. I was size 20, had constant heartburn, and was moody and unhealthy.
“I’ve been on a yo-yo diet for a long time, but it seems that I’ve always been trying to lose weight without long-term success.
“I tried everything. I also tried the cabbage soup diet, but they were all short fixes.
“This time, I decided to lose weight not only to look good, but also to improve my health,” she added.
“It was very difficult to lose weight during a pandemic, especially when I was taking care of my late husband, Mick, who died of terminal cancer at the end of November 2020.
“Mick was over the moon when he encouraged me and saw how well I was doing.

“While everyone else was baking banana bread and putting on weight, I joined Slimming World and lost four stones.
“When I saw Mick fighting his illness, I realized that none of us knew what was in front of us in terms of health, but a healthy weight and some fitness. I know that something helps you fight every battle you may face in your life, “Dris explained.
“The truth was that I wanted to be a healthier and healthier person. A person who can deal with any problems posed to them.
“That’s exactly what happened. When Mick died in the blockade, I had to deal with everything myself. I’m very proud that I didn’t succumb to stress and start a comfortable meal. I am thinking.
“By becoming a member of the Slimming World Group, I was able to address my problems and face the future positively.”
Regarding the physical benefits that Doris has experienced since she lost weight, she revealed:

“I make a lot of my meals from the amazing Slimming World recipe book, and I eat far more fruits, vegetables and fish.
“My favorite meal is Slimming World’s spicy and spicy stir-fried salmon with cauliflower rice or chicken and green onion risotto.
“I especially like red wine, so as soon as I knew how two bottles of red each week affected weight loss, I reduced it to one cup a week.
“By participating in Slimming World, I learned a new way to eat. Still, as soon as I stopped going and thought I could do it myself, I gained weight.
“The support from going to the group every week is getting me on track.”
Regarding the movement, Doris said: “When I was given time to exercise in March 2020, I started walking for an hour every day.
“I was out of breath at first, but now I don’t feel it and walk 5-6 miles.
“It’s unbelievable that I lived in this village for most of my life, and I can’t believe the walk I enjoyed here I didn’t know anything about.
“I want to walk somewhere now rather than get in the car. Next year, I want to walk the Hadrian prostate cancer wallwalk with a friend I hadn’t thought of before I lost weight.”
Overall, Doris went from size 20 to size 12.
She states:
“I couldn’t go to the hairdresser last year, so I decided to stop dyeing my hair. Now I love natural white hair. I feel good, confident, and go out and live my life. I love to have fun. I feel like another woman. ”
