Lake Charles, Louisiana (KPLC)-CHRISTUS Health states that it is raising the bar for weight loss surgery in the region.
Today, the Obesity Center has officially opened on the Lake Area Campus on Nelson Road.
Lake Charles’ Mallory Embankment suffered from multiple health problems that prevented her from losing weight. Then, at just 19 years old, she had obesity surgery.
“It was the best decision I made for me and my health,” Mallory said.
Her surgeon, Dr. Jerome Shraps, states that this type of surgery can help with a variety of health problems.
“Too often, obesity surgery is strictly considered obesity surgery. Surgery to help people lose weight. It’s really aimed at improving people’s overall quality of life. It would be better if you think about it, “Shraps said.
“Therefore, certain medical problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes and obstructive sleep apnea are like severe snoring, and some other problems may be improved with dramatic weight loss. There is, “said Dr. Matthias Notes, an obesity surgeon.
Shrapps and Nauts will work in the new Barrier Trick Center.
They say it would be of great benefit to patients like Mallory who had to be expelled from the state for surgery and follow-up.
“But it’s absolutely amazing that you have something in your house and you don’t have to drive from the state to get there,” Mallory said.
Dr. Shraps says the surgery can be life-changing, but it requires more than just physical recovery.
“The more difficult thing is changing the diet, which is really important. The kind of psychology that accompanies it is that we have to change our relationship with food. It’s a daily battle. We. It will take time to undo these things that are built into, “Shrapps said.
Mallory, now 21 years old, has no regrets.
“I’ve been active all the time. I’m not bored. I’m not out of breath when walking upstairs. I’m in a way more lively and very happy,” she said.
Mallory said he was grateful for the rapid recovery after surgery and is pleased to have access to obesity centers in the region for others living in southwestern Louisiana.
