On a recent episode of AEW Unrestricted, “Premier Athlete” Tony Nese talked about his interest in fitness training, learning about bodybuilding and what he does to stay in shape. Read the highlights below.
How I got interested in fitness training: “My oldest brother was always into fitness. He subscribed to Muscle and Fitness. He was always going to the gym and working out with his friends. I looked up to both brothers and on top of that when I got into wrestling school I realized… oh I’m a tiny little squirt I’m not going to ‘grow up’ that much anymore so watch the part is needed. It was always about me. I was skinny and I was always clear, but I was skinny so I was a skinny kid who could see his muscles. So for me it was learning how to size up. “
To learn about fitness, diet and become a certified trainer: “I fell in love with reading a lot of bodybuilding magazines. I read Arnold [Schwarzenegger]book, The Encyclopedia of Bodybuilding. I read it at least 4 or 5 times. It became my second passion, another part of my life. i train every day. I ate, ate, and ate every day. So many calories. I began to learn more and more what my body was supposed to do: eat, eat, eat. It snowballed into more and more passion. The more I studied and said I wanted to become a trainer myself, the more I learned about it. I worked as a trainer for most of my independent career until I signed, but put that job aside for a while. “
His biggest piece of advice for people starting a fitness routine is: “The hardest part is everyone thinks they have to follow a certain ‘this is how to do it, this is the plan’. That’s the easy part. Just go and lift weights and all? That’s the easiest part. It’s really a matter of staying consistent and just moving on. I always tell my customers My success is not due to my knowledge. Because my success never stopped. I just carried on. There is no reason for me to stop. Of course, there are scratches here and there. things are going to happen. You’ll have a bad week, you’ll be off for weeks. I’m supposed to do it anyway. But other than that? When it comes to eating all the time, getting protein all the time, and taking supplements all the time. I didn’t buy any supplements and after 2 weeks said “This didn’t work. I’m going to keep doing this for 8 weeks. Let’s see how I feel with this. Patience is the most important. That’s one of the biggest pieces of advice: be patient and be consistent.”
About his current routine: “I have kids, so my day is very routine. I take the kids to school and go straight to the gym with my wife Do people think I’m in the gym all day? I spend an hour and a half including cardio and that’s it.The rest of the time is dedicated to recovery, eating and maintaining my calories.I also train online during the day.My day A lot of my time is spent writing workout plans, etc. My routine is simple.”
For Proper Diet and Workouts on the Go: “Like other people’s routines, it gets a little hopeful when you’re on the go. You just have to plan ahead. Luckily, I’ve done this many times.” I literally go through my plans and say, “Okay, I’m flying here. I have a two hour layover.” If you go to the lounge and eat here, you know it’s a two-hour flight to the next place, and when you get there, stop somewhere to buy food or use Uber Eats. I always plan ahead and when I’m home I already know my routine.”
