In Wales, starting at 6am on Boxing Day, the Welsh government is trying to slow the spread of Omicron, introducing new Covid regulations that affect different parts of our lives.
Professional and grassroots sports, gym attendants, fitness classes and kids sports are all affected.
Let’s see what the new rules will look like in Wales starting December 26th.
Professional sports
Welsh professional sports need to be done in a closed room with no fans.
This is a big blow, as this is usually one of the busiest times of the year for fans attending festive sports equipment.
Martin Phillips, CEO of the Wales Rugby Union, estimates that every Wales Derby or European match played without fans means a loss of over £ 100,000 per match.
The Welsh government has announced a £ 3 million spectator sports fund to support affected venues.

Gym
From Boxing Day, alert level 2 measures mean that there is a general requirement that all publicly available facilities require a social distance of 2 meters.
When exercising individually, there are no restrictions on the members who can participate in the gym. See below for the meaning of fitness classes.
Indoor event
The maximum number of people who can gather at an indoor event is 30 people.
In sports terms, this probably applies to fitness and exercise classes.
Outdoor event
The maximum number of people who can gather at an outdoor event is 50.
This affects organized festive swimming, where Porthcawl’s Christmas swimming has already been discontinued.
How about the audience?
There are exceptions to team sports where up to 50 spectators can gather and watch in addition to the participants.

How about a children’s event?
There are exceptions for events that involve children.
The Welsh government has stated that there are no restrictions on activities for the well-being or development of U18 children.
Park run
The Parkrun 5k event in Wales will be suspended from January 1st. However, Junior Park Run will continue for children ages 4-14 due to the exemption from children’s events.
According to a Parkrun statement, “Some Welsh parkrun events have less than 50 participants on a regular basis, but a very small influx (usually a very busy time) to exceed the limit. ) Is required. “
It is said that the events scheduled for Christmas can proceed as scheduled, but the events after January 1st will be cancelled.
