St. James Smokehouse announced a voluntary recall of one of its products on Friday, September 2nd.
The Miami-based company has issued a recall of 93 cases of 4-ounce packages of Scotch Reserve Scottish Smoked Salmon due to possible listeria contamination. Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause fatal infections in children, the elderly, or those with compromised immune systems. It can cause nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and miscarriage or stillbirth in pregnant women.
The relevant lot number is 123172. These products are available at retail locations in Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Washington, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Safeway Washington stores,2 Sold between May and February. June 2022.
Possible contamination was discovered through routine sampling by the Washington State Department of Agriculture. No illnesses have been reported until the time of the recall, but consumers who have affected products should either dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
