Two Catholic healthcare organizations in the St. Louis region, SSM Health, and the SLU Care Physicians Group at the University of St. Louis are working together to form an integrated health network.
Under the new agreement achieved in principle, the two organizations will integrate the SLUCarePhysician Group’s academic medical expertise with SSM Health’s community-based care model. Ownership of the SLUCare Physician Group will be transferred from St. Louis University to SSM Health at the end of the transaction. The contract is expected to close later this summer, awaiting all regulations and other approvals.
SSM Health, SLUCare Physician Group, and Saint Louis University School of Medicine have partnered for decades at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital, and more recently at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital. Full integration of SLUCare Physician Group into SSM Health for seamless to all levels of care, from primary care and preventive services to highly specialized fourth procedures and clinical trials that can provide breakthrough life-saving therapies. SSM Health has care delivery sites in Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin, with 23 hospitals, more than 290 clinics, other outpatient and virtual care services, 10 post-acute facilities, and comprehensive. Home care and hospice services, pharmacy benefit companies, health insurance companies and responsible care organizations.
SLUCare’s more than 600 faculty and other medical professionals have more than 50 specialized expertise. Under this agreement, SLUCare will become a dedicated academic physician division within SSM Health-St. Louis, working closely with more than 50 clinics and more than 600 community-based providers of the SSM Health Medical Group with virtual and digital health services. The agreement also represents a significant investment in the St. Louis University School of Medicine to expand clinical research, medical training and education in the region.
