height: 1.74m
weight: 61kg
Profession: FinTech Marketing
situation: single
food: I’ve found that limiting the types of food I eat doesn’t work, but if I feel like I’ve overdoed fatty foods or alcohol, I may fast intermittently. In general, I also try not to eat anything late at night.
exercise: If my schedule allows, I try to do 2-5 fitness classes a week. Usually spin or barry’s.
Q: When you were young, were you active in sports and fitness?
A: I was on both the Varsity Swim and Touch Rugby teams at some schools. I was a kid who was always trying new sports, from softball to field hockey, horseback riding and even scuba diving.
Unfortunately, I don’t play a lot of team sports anymore. Now I like to hype my friends and try out different fitness studios and activities together.
When did you first go to the fitness class?
I used to work for Lululemon. It was surrounded by a community of workout lovers, from colleagues to people visiting the store. So I decided to work with them to tag a variety of fitness classes, from ballet to yoga, HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), spins and boxing.
I love trying out new fitness classes with familiar people, so I can laugh out loud, at least if I fail miserably.
You seem to have a lot of spinning classes right now.
Spinning was one of the first fitness classes I’ve ever attended and is still my favorite because of how immersive the environment is. It’s catharsis that allows you to ride your bike and sprint to music for 45 minutes away from life.
What are your fitness goals now?
My overall focus is to maintain the perfect balance between health and well-being. Fitness classes have proved to be a great way to maintain both physical fitness and mental clarity. When I look and feel like my best version, it floods all other areas of my life.
Are you wrestling with your body?
I think everyone is suffering from a growing body image. Well-meaning people will say you are too thin, overweight, lacking boobs, too rounded face, too flat butt.
It’s taken a long time and 100% is still in progress, but I feel relieved with myself today. When you achieve your perfect self, you never fall in love with yourself. It involves elegance and humility to embrace your imperfections and constantly tackle your highest self.
It’s always a pain, especially if you’re surrounded by unrealistic and edited content no matter where you look. I’ve definitely been guilty of my anxiety driving me to be influenced by the content and contribute to it. It’s a vicious cycle that can sometimes feel like it never ends. That’s why it’s now so important to focus on empowering those around you. At least for myself, I found that feeling good on the inside puts an end to the comparison on the outside.
When did you lose confidence in yourself?
Self-confidence is what I have always struggled with on and off. I still have impostor syndrome. You’re not as entertaining as dating this group, you’re not well qualified for the job, and you’re not thin enough to wear it.
Learning to find self-confidence in different areas of my life is always a challenge, but having a strong support system at work, both my friends and family, and the community around me, is very difficult. I am blessed with. Fitness class etc. And they make a world of difference in pulling me up when I’m down, and vice versa.
Are you happy with your body now?
I think I’m not striving for my physical satisfaction, but always trying to be grateful for everything it gives me: strength, mobility, and physicality.
But to be honest, I never determine if someone chose to edit or maintain the body in which they were born. Your body, your choice.
I don’t think it’s embarrassing, and transparency always helps to get rid of unrealistic expectations, so if you decide to change something, don’t hide it.
