Center County, Pennsylvania (WTAJ) — A weight loss diet pioneered by a professor at Pennsylvania State University (PSU) is ranked number one according to the US News & World Report.
A panel of health professionals, including nutritionists and specialists in diabetes, heart health, human behavior, and weight loss, reviewed a detailed assessment of 40 diets and evaluated them in seven different categories.
Of these 40 diets, Volumetrics has earned the title of Best Diet for Weight Loss, 5th Best Diet Overall, and 7th Diet Easy to Follow.
According to the US News & World Report, PSU’s professor of nutrition, Barbara Rolls, created Volumetrics, an approach to diet rather than a structured diet.
The book Ultimate Volumetrics Diet helps people decipher the energy density of food, reduce the energy density of their diet, and make choices to fight hunger. Available on Amazon.
Food is divided into four groups:
- Very low density – contains non-starch fruits and vegetables, fat-free milk, soup-based soups
- Low Density – Includes starchy fruits and vegetables, grains, breakfast cereals, low-fat meats, legumes, and low-fat mixed dishes such as chili and spaghetti.
- Medium density – includes meat, cheese, pizza, fried potatoes, salad dressings, bread, pretzels, ice cream and cakes
- High Density – Includes crackers, chips, chocolate candies, cookies, nuts, butter and oil
According to the Volumetrics diet, people focus on categories 1 and 2, monitor category 3 potion sizes, and minimize category 4 choices daily. The book also includes recipes and sample meal plans.
What’s the best thing about Volumetrics? This diet is full and nothing is off limits. But there are long meal preparations and lots of fruits, vegetables, and soup-based soups.
