Pope Francis is currently talking about receiving coronavirus vaccination as a “moral obligation.”
Francis used some of his strongest words, but in a speech to the Holy See-certified ambassador, he called on people to be vaccinated. This is an annual event in which he evaluates the world and sets Vatican foreign policy goals for the year.
Francis, 85, has generally avoided talking about vaccination as a “moral obligation,” but his COVID-19 advisory body calls it “moral responsibility.” Rather, Francis calls vaccination an “act of love.” And refusing to inoculate was “suicide”.
On Monday he went one step further, stating that the individual is responsible for taking care of himself. “This means respecting the health of the people around us. Health care is a moral obligation,” he insisted.
He increasingly lamented that the division of idealism discouraged people from being vaccinated.
“Often people are influenced by the idealism of the moment, supported by unfounded information and poorly documented facts,” he said, to correct this distortion of human reason. We asked for the adoption of “reality therapy”.
“Vaccines are not a magical cure, but they are certainly the most rational solution to prevent the disease, in addition to other therapies that need to be developed,” he added.
Some Catholics, including some conservative U.S. bishops and cardinals, claim that the vaccine is immoral and obtain a jab based on studies using cells derived from aborted foets. I refused.
However, the Vatican’s doctrinal office states that it is “morally acceptable” for Catholics to be vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine, based on studies using cells derived from an aborted foetation. Francis and Pope Benedict XVI are fully vaccinated with Pfizer-BioNTech Shot.
Francis reiterated his call for universal access to shots, especially in parts of the world with low vaccination rates, calling for revisions to patent rules to allow poor countries to develop their own vaccines.
“Institutions such as the World Trade Organization and the World Intellectual Property Organization adapt legal measures so that monopoly rules do not further impede production and access to systematic and consistent health care at the world level. That’s right, “he said.
