Dr. Michael Dennis
Despite top spending on healthcare, life expectancy in the United States is nearly a decade shorter than many other countries, including Japan, Norway and Switzerland.
A recent study found that compared to other public health systems around the world, the United States ranks very low, with universal health coverage, equitable access to health services, reduced administrative inefficiencies, and better welfare options. Lack of promotion. Unfortunately, the study shows that the loss of life expectancy for blacks and Latinos is three times that for other ethnicities. We must address the shortcomings of our healthcare system, policies and public behavior.
One very troubling factor is that the profit-driven healthcare system is primarily focused on drug discovery and treatment of disease rather than prevention. Chronic diseases such as cardiovascular dysfunction and cancer are the most common and costly of all health problems, but are largely preventable.
As mentioned earlier, public behavior is a big contributor to these illnesses. An estimated 60% of premature deaths can be attributed to populations where smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, poor diet and obesity are prevalent. And the massive failure to participate fully and cooperatively in prevention activities such as immunizations and boosters is an embarrassing fact. This, for example, was a huge disappointment in our overall preparations for the spread of COVID.
When it comes to America’s universal health care system, there is evidence that most people would welcome its introduction. But if you look at the history of the effort to launch it, each time it’s proposed, it’s been beaten down by intense lobbying and untraceable backroom deals from the pharmaceutical insurance industry. people would greatly benefit from a political system that is inclusive and promotes policies that are beneficial to all, without an atmosphere of internal resentment or hostility.
And, of course, in addition to quantity, another factor that determines longevity is quality. Improved well-being in areas such as economic security, personal security, and religious freedom for all will help families, friends, and compassionate people who want to enjoy the joys of life for many more years. Desire will be greatly stimulated.
We wish you good health and happiness.
