West Cork’s new trail was opened this week by Danny Collins, the mayor of Coke County.
Cllr Collins officially opened the Ballinen and Enniskeane Community Walkway in collaboration with St Mary’s GAA Club and the Balline en and Enniskeane Development Association.
Starting from the Ballineen and Enniskeane Development Association Center and continuing along the pitch to the Bandon River, the sidewalk provides a safe place to walk and run away from traffic in the village.
The development benefited from € 26,000 of LEADER funding co-funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. The Avondhu / Blackwater Partnership CLG worked with two organizations to implement the project in collaboration with the West Cork Regional Community Development Committee of the Cork County Council.
Cllr Danny Collins cut the ribbon on the new amenity and said: “This is a great example of what local groups can work together to achieve.
“Both the St Mary’s GAA Club and the Ballinen and Enniskeane Development Association have embarked on a project to create truly comprehensive amenities, recognizing the value of having a dedicated walkway.
“Suitable for everyone, such as pushing buggies, training for running, going out for walks, etc. I was excited to see the sidewalks widely used by people of all ages. I am.
“It will be added to the green infrastructure of the Twin Villages, taking people out of the car and giving them new opportunities for outdoor recreation.”
Tim Lucy, Chief Executive Officer of the Coke County Council, said: The LEADER program supports rural development projects at the rural level aimed at revitalizing rural areas. This project is another excellent example of the role of leaders in improving the daily lives of all people in such areas, and also brings health benefits to the community as a whole. “
The sidewalk is the first phase of development of the St. Mary’s GAA Club and the Balineen and Anyskien Development Associations, with lighting and subsequent additions.
