What are training sessions like?
I have a favorite playlist that changes depending on my mood. Then spend the first 10-15 minutes warming up, doing mobility exercises, using the foam roller, and activating the muscle groups you’re going to focus on. Then move on to the set of exercises for the day. It usually consists of 3 large compound movements and 3 more exercises that target specific muscle groups. Then stretch and relax. It will take an hour to two hours, depending on your concentration that day.
What are the benefits of weightlifting?
We have a lot. From protecting bone health to flushing endorphins, it’s a great way to support your overall health. It also helps you move better and stay in shape. For me, the most important part is that I feel better. If you’re having a stressful day, take the stress out at the gym. It helps you become the best version of yourself.
Do you have special diets?
I wouldn’t say I’m on a special diet, but I follow a specific macronutrient breakdown (carbs, fat, protein) as needed. This is where the idea for My Muscle Chef came from. I was studying at university and working out at the gym. I struggled to find a ready-made diet that was high in protein and clear on the macros of each meal. It is extremely beneficial for those who want to support their mental health.
Have you ever had a serious injury?
Luckily I haven’t. There were some minor issues that came with years of training.
What do you like most about weightlifting?
I love that you have the power to transform your body through movement. I love the feeling of steadily reaching goals and moving forward over time. Just like in business, there is immense satisfaction in sticking to a plan, executing it, and seeing the results. I really enjoy mental and physical challenges.
do you hate it?
Weightlifting culture can obsess over physical achievement. It’s also about valuing intangible benefits, such as improved mental health and increased mobility.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to start weightlifting?
Try it! If that interests you, give it a try. You will be amazed at what you can achieve and the physical and emotional benefits. However, we recommend working with a professional trainer to start with a strong foundation.
