MSNBC’s editorial has been badly criticized online, claiming that fitness has been adopted by the far right and workouts are the “center” of fascism.
Cynthia Miller Idris, a professor at American University who studies polarization and extremism, wrote that the far right took advantage of the pandemic trend of fitness at home to further expand its radicalization efforts. .. She quoted a study of “fascist fitness” chat where young men were invited into the community to discuss fitness, but later flooded with fascist messages.
“Physical fitness has always been the center of the far right. In’Mein Kampf’, Hitler stuck to boxing and Jiu-Jitsu,” wrote Miller Idris. “The crossroads of extremism and fitness lean towards a common attachment to the male body, training, masculinity, testosterone, strength, and competition.”
She also said that fitness appeals to right-wing extremists for a number of reasons, including solidarity, heroism, and acceptance of brotherhood. Only in the penultimate paragraph, she acknowledged that workouts are also a positive activity for many non-fascists.
This discussion was not well covered on social media. MSNBC’s tweet, which shares the editorial, is a “ratio” and has attracted thousands of mocking reactions. (Related: Daily caller reporters ask why Biden’s managers don’t emphasize living a healthier lifestyle. Psaki begins talking about masks)

“Well, I did push-ups 10 times, but I have a swastika tattoo on my shoulder.” Tweeted a respondent.. “In my opinion, there’s definitely something about this. The other day I did a lively hike in a local nature reserve, but before I knew it, I invaded Poland.” Made another joke..
In my opinion, this definitely has something to do with it. The other day, I had an active hike in a local nature reserve, but before I knew it, I invaded Poland.
