Kelly and Alan Corbett began to overhaul their health and weight because they wanted to be a milestone birthday and an excellent wellness role model for their three kids.
The Doromore couple lost nearly five stones, but since they hadn’t run since school, they had more leases in their lives and loved to run.
The couple, the owners of Corbett Haulage, have been married since 2008 and turned 40 this year and seven months ago, discovering the CinchFast30 program on Instagram launched by Angela Hunter and Nicola McIlhagger.
“Like everyone else, I think you’ll reach this stage of being fed up,” says Kelly.
“I tried all these different diets and came across the Cinch Fast 30. I knew the girl who started it and found it really interesting.
“I participated in Slimming World or tried calorie counting. Alain has always done it with me, but you don’t stick to it.
“We decided to do something about this. The rest is history. We just jumped in.
“It felt completely different because it was different from your usual other diet, your calorie count, you weren’t weighing, you weren’t measuring. Just chose your window, your time frame to eat. “
“I was also tired of my weight and felt sluggish and overweight, and that was a healthy kick for me,” says Alain.
“And I’ve tried other weight loss plans, but this is something I’ve never tried before. It’s really easy to follow and now I like the second nature.”
Cinch Fast 30 focuses on health first and challenges diet culture. The plan introduces the concept of intermittent fasting with an all-food approach to the diet, designed to help weight loss and improve health.
It reduces insulin production, encourages the body to use energy in the accumulated fat cells, and promotes weight loss.
Short-term fasting helps promote autophagy. Autophagy is a body method for clearing damaged cells and regenerating newer and healthier cells.
Cinch plans specify when to eat, not which food to eat, change the timing of meals, and count the goodness of food, not calories.
“As the days went by, I adapted to it, and Alain adapted to it. To be honest, it became like a second nature,” says Kelly.
“I never thought about it. I didn’t, I can only have this, there are so many sins in this. Nothing is restricted. That’s what we like. is.
“I had a headache on the first day. But you have an absolutely amazing WhatsApp group, and I saw everyone coming in and out, I really have a headache.
“Nikola and Angela were at hand. As soon as you dropped the text message, one of them would come back immediately. And they said, on your water, it’s your body adjusting. only.
“To be honest, by the third or fourth day, I was swinging it around. It’s honestly just the second nature. I never thought about things. And the food. I was preparing for the meal and closed the window at 6 o’clock.
“Believe it or not, Alain’s driving adjusted him really well. I was really shocked at how quickly he adapted.”
Kelly chooses either an 18: 6 plan or a 20: 4 plan. Her husband, Alain, has a longer window, given her role as a carrier driver.
The couple removed the milk from the coffee, and the only changes made to the Corbett cupboard were the replacement of pasta and rice with whole-grain wheat versions.
Corbett lives in a busy family, and each of the three children is actively involved in sports.
His son Jake, 20, is a signed Linfield player and is currently rented to Harland & Wolff Welders. He represents Northern Ireland and has an international cap.
“We never had to say, yes, do you want to try football? Would you like to play rugby?” Says her eldest son, Kelly.
“Since Jake was able to walk, he had football at his feet, and there was something about it, we just, exactly, this kid really goes down this line here I thought I was going. “
Daughter Abbey (16) is an elite gymnast at the Salt Gymnastics Club and a senior at the Irish Gymnastics Corps.
“Whenever Abby comes in, I always thought it would be gymnastics or dance. I’ll see which one she’s interested in,” says Kelly.
“I used to do both, but I didn’t reach her standards and levels. One day I took a swimming lesson in Lisburn and she said,” Mummy, what’s that building? Did you keep saying? ” She said she was gymnastics.
“She went there one day and has been there ever since.
“And Zack, he’s only 12 years old. He’s just going through the ranks,” Kelly continues with her youngest, now Dolomara Village FC striker.
Kelly and Alan were just as active as their children, walking 5 km daily and incorporating running into their exercise.
“We made our first 5km run in Staumont for the Chest, Heart and Stroke Association. We haven’t run properly since we graduated from school,” Kelly laughs.
Couples also feel the mental health benefits of being more active.
“One million percent go out and get that fresh air. We try to go to different places. It could be Hills Rose Forest Park or it could be in the immediate vicinity of a local road. Hmm.
“If Abbey’s training didn’t come out early that day, I and Alain would head to Lisburn. I would go out half a 5K walk and do something like that.
“It’s definitely a good thing for headspace, and it’s also good to get out of the heavy-duty truck that Alain drives all day long.
“I never slept,” she continues. “I would have been like Tosser and Turner. I went to bed at 11 pm and could still be on the phone at 1 am. Now I’m honestly ready to go to bed at 10:30 pm It’s done. I go out as soon as my head hits the pillow. “
“The weight loss has made me feel better overall and I have a lot more energy,” says Alain. “Now it’s much easier and more fun to go for a walk and I don’t have to worry about it.”
Losing 4.5 stones among them, the couple are keen to emphasize that they have never been hungry for reframing food as fuel.
“In fact, it’s very amazing that your way of thinking changes completely. You have this little thing in your head saying I’m hungry, I need this.
“One day last week I really needed comfort. I told myself,” Kelly, you don’t. ” She poured a glass of water. And I said I was really thirsty. It’s sometimes in your head.
“My slow cooker is always on. I bought a new air fryer, and I’m making quite a lot of fake meals, and my whole family is benefiting from it.
“It works for all five of us. We are trying to be their good defenders and show them at home. A healthy diet is reflected in you and you train as well. To do.
“Our kids are very healthy and healthy, two of them are doing high level sports. I want to be two fat parents standing on the sidelines supporting our kids. No. At least now we feel we have achieved something and feel healthy and healthy with them. “
Alain agrees. “We like our food, and never really lived out of the freezer anyway, and now we have more recipes for the meal.
“The kids are so sporty and active that they can stay healthy, be healthier and join together.”
