Lincolnshire farmers say their friends and family were “surprised” after starting a weight loss program during the first coronavirus blockade and losing five stones. Charles Anyang, who runs a farm in the village of West Lindsey in Springthorpe, said he was immediately worried about his weight when the pandemic broke out.
A 41-year-old woman said, “I’ve always been a pretty big chap, known as a big chap, but I’ve always been rugby and swimming, so I’ve been blocked and I can’t do that anymore. I immediately thought that if I didn’t do anything else, it would be 20 stones.
“It wasn’t the place I wanted because I’m only 5 feet 7 inches. Running was something I didn’t want to do, but my friend got the NHS and 5k at the beginning of the blockade. I challenged me to do it. I was happy to show it, so I went looking for a trainer.

“I couldn’t actually find a trainer, so I stepped barefoot into the orchard and jogged slowly for about 40 minutes. Then I took my first photo. Then I went to Amazon and trainer. And four days later I put them on and tried 5k. “
Even though Charles said his first 5k attempt “absolutely killed” him, he eventually realized that it was getting easier and his up to 6k and 8k runs. I started to walk the road. Eventually, he ran a virtual 10k in September 2020 and began to lose a “significant” amount of weight.
Two years after the first light jogging in the orchard, Charles fell to 12 stones. Despite being initially reluctant to start running, he has now completed several long-distance events and ran the Manchester Marathon in 3 hours and 45 minutes earlier this year.
Much of his work supports farming community network charities that work with farmers to support mental health. Charles states that about £ 23,000 has been raised from two campaigns he led. Regarding advice to others, Charles added:
“My friends and family weren’t clearly looking at me during the blockade, so I was really pretty shocked. I think they could see the difference. Physically, I It doesn’t really make much difference, but mentally it makes me feel very good. Every time I look in the mirror, I feel it. “
