Kate chatted on the Blend podcast with BBC journalist Ashley John-Baptiste, who starred in the BBC Three documentary Split Up in Care: Life Without Siblings.
The two talked about foster parent Ashley’s childhood and rebuilding his relationship with his parents’ home.

At some point, they talked about the meaning of the term “mother.” Kate said she felt she needed to win the title when she joined her family in Rio in 2017.
She told Ashley:’I know you met your mom when you were 10 years old after watching the documentary.
“How did it feel to me because it has the label” Mom “… As you know, I’m Stepmum-I’m called Kate in our house-and I’m I feel like I had to win my title I have to give love to be that person, so Stepmum, and even Kate, win my title.
