In his new memoir, “Happy People are Annoying,” Josh Peck says a lot, especially about adapting to the status quo.
Nickelodeon’s beloved actor, known for his roles in “Drake & Josh” and “The Amanda Show,” is happy quarterback, charming, or wealthy.
“I thought no one else had received the same manual for navigating the life I had when I was born,” Peck told Joe Flyer today. “So when writing this book, it was like agreeing to that idea, and I faced to find a version of my own happiness and define it for myself. What I had to do. “
Growing up, Peck said he was early on with the idea that “life isn’t always cake.” He is the son of a single mother and writes, “She has been sticking to her middle finger to social norms since she was a child.”
In his memoirs, Peck tells us that he grew up overweight. It’s what he calls his childhood “unique, powerful, all-consuming memory.” To date, he has talked about using comedy as a defense mechanism to grow overweight. This is a skill he “inevitably mastered”.
“I set foot in most rooms at that age, and at my weight in an unfavorable situation, people immediately determined that I was lazy, unwilling or something.” Peck said. “And it was my duty not to always stand out. I just wanted to be on the same level as everyone else.”
In particular, Peck’s weight loss between Seasons 3 and 4 of “Drake & Josh” attracted media attention. Mr. Peck said it was strange to navigate the public reaction. There was a year and a half between seasons 3 and 4, but to the audience, weight loss felt like a “major change.”
“When I lost weight, there was certainly a small accidental idea.” Oh, it was fun when you were fat, or we took this guy we loved away, so we got this I don’t know if he loves the new man, but “” Peck said the “majority” was supportive.
After losing weight, Peck said he turned to another coping mechanism, the substance. Peck calmed down at the age of 21 and spoke openly today about how his addiction ruined relationships and endangered his life.
“I was also 18 years old, very stupid and looking for wild oats to sow. I was worried about my body to make up for the lost time, so when I discovered medicines and alcohol. I quickly filled my itch. I lost weight, but it appeared when I wasn’t taking the same medicine, “Peck said.
35-year-old Peck is now the husband and father of 3-year-old Max. He says he has given him a “revival of the universe” since he was a child who had never met his father.
“The truth is that we don’t always get the compensation we deserve from those who hurt us,” Peck said. “But sometimes, we fix ourselves by not passing on that trauma to the next generation.”
Peck appeared at the Rosie O’Donnell Show when he was only 10 years old, surprised the audience with his quick wit and confidently told O’Donnell that he wanted to be an actor. More than 20 years later, he still maintains that vision.
He is a regular series of spin-off series “How I Met Your Father” and appeared with his previous on-screen “Drake & Josh” sister Miranda Cosgrove on reboot of “iCarly”. .. He starred in Disney’s “Turner & Hooch” last year. And he says he considers happy people to be “nuisance”, but he confesses to this day that even he feels he is a “happy neighbor”.
“I’m not so interested in happiness, I’m more interested in content,” Peck said. “And I’m more than satisfied.”
