award-winning jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis Died. he was 87 years old.
The news broke today after a representative announced the musician’s passing via Facebook.
According to an official statement, the NEA Jazzmaster “passed away peacefully at his home in Chicago” on the morning of September 12th.
The four-time Grammy nominee and three-time Grammy winner may be best known for his 1965 breakout hit, “The ‘In’ Crowd.” However, he also had great success with two other chart-toppers, “Hang on Sloopy” and “Wade in the Water.”
Lewis went to record with other jazz and R&B icons. earth wind and fire– then toured with the group’s vocalist Philip BaileyIn 1995 Lewis launched the crossover supergroup Urban Nights. Grover Washington Jr., Earl KlughWhen Dave Koz.

The official statement added: Lewis received the National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Award in 2007. ”
Most recently, Lewis and his wife produced a monthly “Saturday Salon” live stream series. The Beatles Songbook: The Saturday Salon Series, Volume 1will be released on November 11th via Steel Records.
“Ramsay also spent the last years of his life writing his memoir Gentleman of Jazz with his co-author Aaron CohenA statement said the book will be released through Blackstone Publishing in 2023.
Lewis lost two sons Ramsey Lewis III When Kevin Lewis, And his beloved wife survived, 2 daughters, 3 sons, 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Jazz Foundation of America in Lewis’ honor.
