I’ve loved working out for a long time, and after being a personal trainer for over 6 years, somehow started writing as a career, so I also know how to put together a lot of training programs. The first, and in my opinion the most important item for a home gym, is a good set of adjustable dumbbells. I bought it and will never go back. The ability to quickly change between different weights is amazing, easily repeat exercises, do pyramid sets or constantly push your luck trying to lift heavier. It means you can.

Oddly enough, this is one of the optional items on this list. However, if you have enough space and don’t mind using it as a seat, a weight bench is a great way to train at home. One of the most difficult exercises to replicate at home is the lat pulldown. You can try your moves on the floor, but they will never be the same. Instead, you should have a good pull-up bar. There are more bells and whistles than this one, but it doesn’t have to be flashy. It should be sturdy. As long as your home has a doorway that can handle it, a pull-up bar is one of the best for home workouts.

Having a hard time growing up, having access to whatever I have around me is a great way to keep costs down. However, if you’re looking for something inexpensive that can really upgrade your workout, push-up bars are a great choice. helps. This is probably the most niche item on my list, but ultimately I prefer swords. It’s an out staple. Just practicing the same dual-handed overhead swing 1,000 times will work muscles in your back and core you didn’t even know existed. The blisters are terrible, so be sure to protect your hands if you’ve never done this before. The child will get the wrong idea.

Now, I know you think heavy bags aren’t space efficient, but hear me out. You can actually hang heavy bags from pull-up bars if your door frame can handle it. Plus, if you buy a heavy bag like this, it also works as a fun way to secretly lift weights for walking upstairs with it on your shoulders or just hanging out with it if you feel like trying something.
