She has been a staple of the local fashion scene for over 25 years, but Kate Sylvester recently discovered the joy of exercising.
Kate Sylvester and her fashion label have been at the forefront of the local fashion scene for over 25 years.
Her latest collection, Portrait, is based on the work of 90’s photographer Peter Lindbergh and has just opened a retail store. It should have been displayed during Fashion Week, which was canceled due to red light restrictions.
The mother of three teenage boys, Sylvester, lives in Auckland and does business with her husband, Wayne Conway.
She answers some questions for us.
If I knew 10 years ago … How wonderful is regular exercise?
I’ve always been an incredibly lazy person, and just recently I’m doing really good aerobic exercise and strength, exercising 3 to 5 times a week, and that’s great. I do it at home, so I belong to one of the most exclusive gyms in the world with one membership.
I think the energetic and aerobic ones are really great. It’s a health benefit, but I think the mental health benefit is huge. I can’t believe how incredibly positive it was for me. That’s why the yay movement!
I wish I could exchange my life … Zoi Sadowski-Synnott Because the sacred Molly of Big Air she does looks so nice and I have never had the courage to do it myself.
So it’s unbelievable to be her and experience it.
I wish I could eat it every day …Not long ago, I would have called it chili chocolate. What I found is that you really don’t want to do it because you get tired of what you really like.
I think it’s great No Eat what you like every day. I love oysters because I can’t eat much.
The seasonality is also wonderful. As you know, the first feijoa of the season, the first cherries of the season.
I wish I could live… Oaxaca, Mexico. I have traveled there several times, and I absolutely love it.
I have a plan to move there someday. It’s not permanent, but I’ve lived for 6 months or a year and have a great craft community and great traditional crafts, so I want to learn how to weave.
I wish it was on the banknotes … Helen Clark.
I am very proud of New Zealand politics. We believe that our politics is incredibly wonderful, civilized, intelligent and compassionate compared to many political environments around the world.
I think the big part is that we have a very strong female presence in all political parties. Helen Clark was a pioneer and she did a great job. She is a very nice role model for people.
The noise that I want to never hear again …jet ski. I absolutely hate them.
Bach is located in Mangauhai Harbor, and it is peaceful and beautiful. Fairy terns breed and people gather and sail pips, all very nice and calm. Then, put these petrol heads on the water.
I wish I could spend Sunday together… My mother, before she had very serious and severe dementia. She wants her pre-dementia mom to go back a day.
I miss her so it will be an incredibly special treat. It’s a strange thing about dementia. They may still be alive, but you miss them and mourn them terribly.
To more people … Make Things-Anything. I think it’s a shame that we have become too passive. People need to get off their cell phones, turn off Netflix, sew things, knit, make things, and grow things.
Again, it’s incredibly positive. I started crafting myself, and I find it incredibly positive and rewarding. Making your own is very nice.
I wish I had more New Zealand … green. Climate change is completely horrifying, and in fact no government in the world is doing enough to try to fix what is happening.
