This was the disclaimer my childhood best friend would give me before entering her house after school. I vividly remember him inviting me to participate.
So when I learned that Jazzercise was not only still around in 2022, but launched a digital platform with tons of program options to choose from, I decided to give it a try. After more than 50 years, a workout that is still out there has to be effective, right?
How much does Jazzercise On Demand cost?
A monthly subscription to Jazzercise On Demand is $19.99 per month, making it affordable compared to other dance workout options on the market. Most of the workouts available on this digital platform require no equipment, just enough space to move and sweat. However, to get the most out of your strength and toning workouts, it’s helpful to have a set of hand weights, mats, and resistance bands. This app is available for Roku, AppleTV, Amazon FireStick, and iPhone. You can also log on from your laptop or computer and follow from there. Jazzercise On Demand Workout Content
When you log on to the app for the first time, you’ll be presented with a 14-day getting started guide that includes recommended workouts for the first two weeks. This includes rest days and recommended equipment. This guide incorporates workouts from different categories of the app. Interval fusion to switch between dance cardio and toning intervals. Dance HIIT that combines high intensity intervals and cardio dancing. Weight training workouts with strength, hand weights, body weights and optional resistance bands. Strike, a kickboxing workout.
In addition to the 14-day getting started guide, the platform offers other curated programs with workout playlists. A power-up outlining a list of weight challenges and reps, a self-care challenge that incorporates recommendations for healthy habits (such as meditation and stretching) and workouts from the app, and (my personal favorite) a 7-day Booty Boost Challenge. There’s also a new 7-day workout plan released every week.
If you don’t want to go through the full program, you can explore workouts by time length (available in 10, 20, 30, and 40 minute intervals), new releases, or categories (Dance Cardio, Strength, Restore). I can do it. There’s also an Extras section where you can watch livestream replays, unlock bonus routines, see behind-the-scenes content, and get tips on techniques. You can also find the app’s most popular workouts in the Top 10 section.
I tried Jazzercise On Demand – this is what it looks like
For my first class, I chose the 40 minute Dance Mixx workout with Raffaele. We started with a warmup that worked every part of the body from neck to feet. The weighted toning section of this workout helped break the ice, and before we knew it, we were in the cooldown phase.
As the trial continued, it became clear that the warm-up portion of this workout was a hallmark of Jazzercise On Demand. This may make it look like you’re doing an easy workout when you first start playing, but you’ll definitely be sweating by the end. It was a class called Fusion 40 with Young that I found from. It’s a mix of dance and weight moves that time out for each song. This class targets every part of the body, and I loved that it added some moving squats and core work along with weighted arm movements.
I’ve found the 20-minute and 30-minute class options to be especially helpful when you’re busy and don’t have a lot of time for a quick workout. Core 30 was my go-to. It incorporated a variety of standing moves, mat work and weight movements, all targeting the core in different ways. The next day my abs hurt in places I didn’t know!
What I Loved About Jazzercise On Demand Workouts
The instructors’ body types and backgrounds are as diverse as the platform’s offerings, making this platform fresh, up-to-date, and comprehensive.
As someone who grew up in the early 2000s when size 00 was the standard for beauty, I was extremely grateful to have taken classes with Jazzercise On Demand instructors who represent a wide range of body types. The emphasis on proper form is evident in each workout, especially when weighted movements are involved. It guides you through the process so you can easily adjust your form to avoid injury.
If you’re starting to get back into your workout routine, the Jazzercise On Demand program makes it easy to know how and where to start. The workouts are challenging, but the movements and pace are accessible enough for absolute beginners.
You can even save your favorite classes and create your own playlist of workouts. I appreciate having this option because it allows me to easily return to my favorite workouts.
What I didn’t like about the Jazzercise On Demand workout
If you’re an adrenaline junkie looking for your next fitness thrill, Jazzercise On Demand isn’t it. The workouts are challenging enough and if you stick to them consistently you will see results as far as toning goes. We recommend that you consider other options if necessary.
Overall, the new digital platform feels up to date. As someone who isn’t shy, this didn’t bother me much personally.
