Exercise has always been a daunting task for me. If I had a pound every time I bought a gym membership in the hope of “getting fit” and never showed up, I would be overwhelmed.
So I was a little worried about attending one of Barry’s “high intensity” classes, the Fitness Class, which will open tomorrow in Liverpool’s city centre. The phrase “high intensity” would make me reluctant. To be honest, I’d like to eat a little Netflix and eat potato chips, but I thought I should give it a try.
Barry’s is described as a “boutique” fitness brand that offers “world-famous” training that is especially popular with celebrities. With studios around the world, including London and Manchester, we’re launching a studio on the top floor of a fashionable new department store, Flannels, which will be open to the public tomorrow, June 23rd.

Gym
This particular Liverpool studio is known as the “Red Room”, so let’s talk about the gym. This sounds fresh from Fifty Shades of Gray. It was okay for Christian Gray to come in, but that was enough to make me uneasy.
The studio was very flashy-I’m talking about bright red lights, mirrors, neon signs, and it even has its own protein shake bar. I’m used to (rarely) at home exercising with Amazon exercise mats, weights I found on Facebook Marketplace, and dogs that keep licking my face while doing sit-ups. please tell me.
Jim had a really intimidating presence, but that was definitely not a bad thing. Bright red lights, vibrant music and loud fitness instructors really wanted me to move, and trust me, it takes me a lot to do it!
I’ve never loaded it, but I can honestly say that I’ve never been to a gym like Barry. It was modern, fresh and almost motivated in a strange way. As soon as I saw a huge line of treadmills lined with mirrors in front of me, I wish I had worked harder on my hair and makeup that day.
There were exercise equipment, weights, mats and gym equipment in the corner around the room. The music really added to the atmosphere of the space, and the dreaded (but nice) fitness instructor and Mike intimidatedly exploded the order.
Exercise class
You might think I’m self-deprecating, but I was arguably the healthiest person out there. why do you ask Well, maybe because I had to leave the room 20 minutes after the warm-up, I felt like I was about to collapse.
That, coupled with the fact that I was exercising with a pair of cheap Asda trainers, the baggy T-shirt didn’t help. But aesthetics isn’t everything, and I still feel very welcome.
I think it didn’t help to be surrounded by incredibly healthy people, including the only Jamie Carragher who was embarrassed on me on the treadmill. But I didn’t stop it, I stayed motivated, and after my short dizziness spell and a few glasses of water, I returned to the treadmill for the rest of the warm-up ..
After sprinting on the treadmill to feel like absolute eternity, it’s time to go to the center of the room and do a series of push-ups, mountaineers, and that horrifying exercise that no one really likes, the burpee. came. At least after the first round we were able to relax a bit-yes? Wrong. It’s time to return to the treadmill-no rest for the wicked.
The same process was repeated 3 times, with various exercises and weight exercises including chess press. I was so sweaty that I once again regretted choosing to wear a huge, baggy T-shirt that seemed to trap my body’s heat.
Over time, I took more and more breaks, but thankfully I wasn’t alone-a lovely lady next to me shouted, “I can’t make this bloody!” I was surprised. -I feel a little better. It sounds like it’s moaning, but the boot camp, which at the time felt like hell, turned out to be great in the end.
verdict
Sure, at some point I felt like I was going to die, but I really enjoyed my first boot camp at Barry’s. This particular class was an hour chest, back and abdominal muscles, but boys, did it feel longer?
The staff were very nice, did not feel embarrassed or inferior, and were pleased with the rather pathetic attempts during the session. So if you want to attend a bucket-sweat exercise class, Barry’s is definitely one of them.
Given that I’m used to the good old Pure Gym, my visit felt like a pretty extravagant experience. I’ve never been to the gym so I can make my own protein shake after training, which was a nice touch.
Each class costs £ 20. Alternatively, you can choose 3 classes for £ 55 and 5 classes for £ 89. The “OG” package offers 50 classes for a whopping £ 540. This is calculated at £ 10 per class.
That said, exercise classes at Barry’s are definitely an experience, but if you do it the right way, it can be absolutely amazing. Is it worth the money? I think so, but I’m not sure if it’s difficult to get back to the current state of the bank’s balances.
Be sure to pick up your towel before going to the studio. Because you will need it. It definitely hurts in the morning.
