One meta-analysis, published in a critical review of food science and nutrition, set out to establish the lipid-lowering effect of bergamot on humans.
The review searched a total of 442 studies, 12 of which met the eligibility criteria.
The author explains: “A database was searched for intervention and observational studies investigating the effects of bergamot on human lipid profiles.
“Based on the data, 75% of the studies showed a significant reduction in total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDLc.”

Promising findings reveal the therapeutic potential of bergamot supplementation in the management of high cholesterol.
In addition, the findings are consistent with further research on rodents published in the Peer Review Journal’s Integrated Food, Nutrition and Metabolism.
