Panama City, Florida (WJHG / WECP)-Registered dietitian nutritionist Marcia Pell knows that people moan when she hears her title. She said, “People actually have this negative implication of a registered dietitian.” “Let us rob them of their favorite food.”
But she wants to change that image.
“I love what I do because there are so many people who can’t believe they can eat potatoes,” Pell said. “I don’t take anything away and I don’t really tell people what to eat.”
Mr. Pell said that everyone is different, that is, they have different nutritional needs.
“The only way I know it works is to talk to the people I work with. What’s their goal? What are their concerns, what do they like to eat, what are their tastes, and start where they are, “Pell said.
She also said that most diets are just a set of rules that work in the short term, but are not sustainable in the long term. She has a different approach.
“We talk about the changes we can make to achieve the goals they want,” Pell said. “We do not impose on you a strict diet that you cannot follow.”
Some diet plans advise people to shop around grocery stores and stay away from what’s packaged.
“It doesn’t make sense when it comes to reality,” Pell said. “I want convenience food. I’m too busy.”
Pell quickly admitted that she didn’t like to cook. So she always looks for an easy way that doesn’t mean eating out.
“One of my favorite recipe sources is a dietitian who generally likes cooking,” says Pell. “They are very realistic, quick and easy, healthy and excellent.”
Many of the recipes contain the ingredients we usually already have in the cabinet.
There may be some questions about what is fresher and more organic.
“There is really no evidence that organics are healthier,” Pell said. “This is a farming method that uses a variety of pesticides, but we use pesticides.”
Pell is also a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist.
“I work with people with diabetes and weight problems, cardiovascular problems, and people with chronic kidney disease,” Pell said.
Well, this doesn’t mean you can have three huge plates of greasy fried food. But that means you don’t have to give up on your chocolates and other favorites.
