FDA approves COVIDvax for children under 5 years old
Friday’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given a green light to the COVID-19 vaccine for children under the age of five. This is an important step in making shots available to the youngest child.
- The agency has approved a vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech for children aged 6 months to 4 years, and a vaccine from Moderna for children aged 5 years.
- More than a year and a half has passed since the COVID-19 vaccine was first rolled out to adults, making it the last group to be vaccinated for children under the age of five. About 18 million of them are eligible.
“Many parents, caregivers and clinicians have been waiting for a vaccine for younger children. This behavior helps protect children up to 6 months of age. As seen in older people. We hope that vaccines for young children will provide protection from the most serious consequences of COVID-19, such as hospitalization and death, “said FDA Commissioner Robert Calif in a statement.
With approval, the vaccine can begin shipping to the states and other jurisdictions where the first batch was pre-ordered.
What’s next: The actual first shot may come early next week after the CDC Advisory Board meets tomorrow.

Cliburn attacks DeSantis over child vaccine decision
House Majority Whip James Cliburn (DS.C.) requested the Governor of Florida. Ron DeSantis (R) Explain whether to overturn his decision after refusing to order the COVID-19 vaccine for children under the age of five.
In a letter sent Friday, Cryburn, chairman of the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, opposes devoting state resources to immunizing infants against COVID-19. He added that he was concerned about DeSantis’ public comments that he was doing so.
“As a result of your refusal to participate, Florida parents who want to vaccinate their children may have to wait longer and their children may be left without the protection provided by these vaccines,” Cliburn said. Is writing.
He emphasized that all states except Florida ordered the vaccine after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave a green light on the COVID-19 vaccine for children under the age of five on Friday.
“There is no state program to infect infants and newborns with COVID jabs,” DeSantis said Thursday. “It’s not where we’re trying to take advantage of our resources, because that’s not what we think is appropriate.”
As the Associated Press stated on Friday, individual healthcare providers in Florida can now order shots, but the state did not pre-order them.

Omicron is unlikely to cause long COVID
New studies show that the omicron variant of coronavirus is significantly less likely to cause longer COVID-19 symptoms than the previous delta variant.
- A study by British researchers published in The Lancet found that 4.5% of Omicron cases resulted in longer COVIDs compared to 10.8% of Delta cases.
- The good news is that the Omicron variants currently in circulation are less likely to cause longer COVIDs than the previous Delta variants, but in this study, even with Omicrons, longer COVIDs are more likely to occur. It is shown.
“Omicron variants appear to be significantly less likely to cause Long-COVID than previous variants, but one in 23 people who catch COVID-19 will continue to have symptoms for more than four weeks.” Claire Steves, lead author and researcher of the study, said in a statement at King’s College London.
In addition, studies have shown that the total number of long COVID cases during the Omicron period was actually high, as the Omicron variants spread more easily and infect more people.

Iowa Supreme Court Rules for Abortion Protection
The Iowa Supreme Court ruled on Friday that the state constitution does not protect abortion, overturning a four-year-old ruling because the rights to federal abortion appear to be at great risk. ..
The ruling overturns the lower court’s move to block a law that establishes a 24-hour waiting period before a person undergoes an abortion.
Important timing Prior to Roe’s ruling: The decision Roe v. Wade established the right to abortion at the U.S. Supreme Court after the leaked draft opinion supported the majority of judges overturning the groundbreaking decision. It is done to make it look like you are ready to overturn the judgment in the case.
Iowa was previously one of several states where the Supreme Court ruled that the State Constitution protects the right to abortion. The Supreme Court of State has issued such judgments in Kansas in 2019, Montana in 1999, Alaska in 1997, and Florida in 1989.
According to the Guttmacher Institute, an abortion advocacy group, 26 states could ban abortions if the Supreme Court overturns Roe.
