Students receive mentorship and career guidance, and learn directly as a visiting professor from respected health business executive Bunny Ellerin, co-founder and CEO of NYC Health Business Leaders. This ambitious program will receive guidance and support from Professor Terry Huang, a world-renowned expert in public health entrepreneurship who launched Firefly Innovations in 2019.
“One of the most important elements of this program is exposing students to the kinds of career paths possible at MPH and making them believe they can build a future in fields they never thought they would. said Professor Huang. “Along with our next cohort, this fellowship will also be an opportunity to attract and recruit top talent from around the country.”
Operationalization of health business education
The Fellowship prepares students to apply public health education to the health business environment and to enhance their knowledge of the relationship between health business and public health. Topics that transcend traditional public health education include hands-on opportunities for students to learn directly from company executives and leaders.
“When the school contacted me, I knew I wanted to participate in this,” Ellerin said. “I am doing this because I strongly believe that public health can be used as a starting point to bring new people into the business of healthcare. It touches on real life opportunities in a way that can bridge the gap to business.”
CUNY SPH Foundation Executive Director Adam M. Doyno said: “Their ambition and influence could skyrocket with this fellowship so generously funded and deeply envisioned by Michael Meng.”
