If you’re planning a new year’s fitness kick, you may also need some new activewear.
Whether you work out at home, train at the gym, or go out, buying all your gear can be expensive.
However, high streets and supermarkets have a wide range of styles that are just as effective as specialty sports brands and sell for half the price.
Fitness enthusiast Vicky Pattison, 35, gives Jess Evans her verdict on the best budget fitness purchases and marks them out of 10.
- Vicki Pattison’s The Secret To Happy will be published in paperback by Sphere on 12th January for £9.99.
Marks and Spencer
Royal Blue Fleece £45 Baby Blue Gilet £49.50 Leggings £27.50
This bad boy kit comes at a higher price point, but it’s worth it.
The fleece is super comfortable, feels snug like a bug, and the leggings suck right away.
I don’t think this price is bad for this quality.
I buy gilets for just under £50 and the quality is unbelievable.

It feels more like a woman who likes the outdoors, and I wear it when I walk my dog.

Primark
Hot Pink Crop Top, £6, Leggings, £6
PRIMARK can’t be beaten on price. First, it’s important to mention that these two pieces are worth £6 each.
A little sexy in the gym. It’s something you’re likely to see me around the pool.
The ribbed fabric hides a lot of sin, is very trendy, and can be easily worn with a blazer or sweatshirt to give it a great athleisure vibe.
When I exercise in these shorts, I feel like I’m going to fall off. I would always pull it up.

H&M
Orange Stretch Top, £19.99, High Shine Leggings, £19.99
A top in this color is perfect for a change of pace in January.
I wear a lot of Sweaty Betty and this quality matches it.
It’s so flattering and I love the feel of it.
I also like the small thumb hole. Perfect for runners.
I’m not too keen on leggings. Fabric gives me disco. This is not me at all!

Tesco F&F
Bright Blue Rib Top, £12.50 Blue Patterned Leggings, £12.50
The quality of this is class, especially the top is great.
I would have believed you if you told me it was the luxury sports brand lululemon.
This is a big part of pushing yourself to hit the gym.
I wouldn’t be shocked if someone told me this was from a much more expensive brand.
It’s also incredible to get both pieces for £25 – this is my favourite.
evaluation: 10/10.
pretty little thing
Baby pink jacket £22 Teal ribbed sports bra £12 Leggings £18
I’m a big fan of PLT, but they blew it here. Is there anything they can’t do?
The material has excellent elasticity and is easy to move according to the movement of the body, making it ideal for exercise.
I’m leaning toward a Pilates or yoga look, but I’d say I like it.
I think it will come home with me!

Sainsbury’s Fire
bluish pink sweatshirt £20, navy jacket £24, leggings £16
The muted colors in this are very personal and very trendy.
This hoodie is next-to-skin.
These are also the first leggings with a pocket for your phone and are very fancy.
The fact that this is very trendy, soft and affordable guarantees a good score.

Pep and Friends of Poundland
Orange crop top, £4.50, leggings, £6
This set is a little too sheer for my taste.
But it’s a nice color that gives your feet a little energy.
It cheered me up immediately and I loved the ribbed fabric – but this is not for high intensity training.
evaluation: 6/10.
Next
Pink long-sleeved top, £22, patterned leggings, £24
This top is super soft, but you’ll be wearing a bucket at the gym and sweating.
The leggings hold me well, but the pattern is a little crazy.
That being said, I think it’s a lovely outfit to put together.
And at under £50, both of these pieces are activewear swag, so that’s a big plus.
