Looking to lose a few pounds? Or do you have a little more energy and feel healthier and stronger? You are not alone!
The University of Wisconsin is now freedom An 18-month weight loss program that helps you develop a better diet and exercise habits without having to go on a diet.
This program, called Log2Lose, is part of a long-term research study. The program consists of virtual group meetings that take place every 6 months. 6 months monthly meeting and individual phone calls. And finally, there have been three individual calls with a dietitian over the last six months. Participants will also be scheduled to meet three times during that period and will be rewarded for that time.
The idea is to prepare you for long-term success, said Dr. Colleen Boyles, a professor of surgery performing the study.
“We focus on teaching people about nutrition. We don’t focus on a particular diet or ask people to limit a particular food,” she said. .. “We are only trying to teach general nutritional principles that can be incorporated into their lives with the food they already eat.”
According to Boyles, the program also teaches and encourages physical activity that does not require attendance at the gym.
“We also teach you behavioral stress, how to track calories, how to weigh regularly, how to eat carefully, how to handle emotional meals, and more,” she said.
Voils is looking for 350 participants and wants to make the group as diverse as possible.
“Latin and black Americans suffer disproportionately to obesity-related illnesses such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. These individuals are less enrolled in weight loss studies. We try I’m not really sure if the strategy I’m testing works well in these groups. Most weight loss studies in the community target middle-aged white women who are important groups but don’t represent the United States. It is very important for us to know because we tend to. “
Any adult over the age of 18 could be eligible, Boyles said. Everyone in the program goes through the same weight loss program. The only difference is the additional messages you receive between meetings to keep things going.
“The best way to predict how well people are doing with these programs is to weigh them regularly and track their food,” Boyles said. “When people participate in weight loss programs, they usually find that they do those things at first and are quite successful in losing weight, but over time they stop tracking and regularly. Time to stop weighing and at the same time tend to gain weight. Therefore, we use different types of text messages to test people to motivate and remind them of their actions. increase.”
