The BSD Board will consider the relaxed COVID protocol on Monday. Approximately 100 parents gathered outside the district office and asked to withdraw the mask requirements.
Boise, Idaho — The Boise School District Board of Trustees, at its regular board meeting, will consider implementing an up-to-date health and safety plan for the entire district on Monday.
The proposed policy updates will ease some COVID-19 protocols and mitigations, such as making masks optional and reviving school dance. The Boise School District PTA’s private group consists of 740 members and supports proposed updates.
The policy update will shift coronavirus BSD management from a “pandemic-based model” to a “trend-based model.” The proposed policy update has been drafted in paper, but the school district’s public relations manager, Dan Horror, said the school district wasn’t rushing to do it.
“We do not expect the Board to consider implementing the proposed updated health and safety plan with the optional mask in the current infection situation in Ada County, but the decision is It’s up to the board. “Horror emailed KTVB.
The updated policy states that the district will listen to feedback provided by national and local health professionals.
Dr. David Pate is a member of Governor Brad Little’s Coronavirus Working Group. According to the benchmark set by Dr. Pate, COVID has not yet begun to be treated as endemic.
Putty said the coronavirus would transition from a “pandemic” to “endemic” if the background of the disease’s activity was low.
“This is because many students and teachers are not sick, emergency medical centers are not overwhelmed, many healthcare workers are not sick, hospitals are not overwhelmed, and infections. The rate is low enough to enable contact tracing. “
Hospitals in Idaho are overwhelmed by the fact that much of southern Idaho is currently receiving critical standard of care. Idaho’s Ministry of Health is stuck with over 35,000 positive tests awaiting review and follow-up. However, the incomplete dataset shows that the current test positive rate for Ada County is 19.3%. Dr. Pate hopes that the positive test rate will be less than 5% before the endemic criteria are established.
The Board accepts written public comments before the meeting on Monday.
