According to one study, men who eat too much meat are at increased risk of infertility.
Experts warned that those planning to give birth should make sure they are eating limited levels of chicken, beef and mutton.
A study conducted at the University of Worcester found that a high-protein diet reduced testosterone in men by 37%.
According to experts, for the average man, this will cause medically low testosterone (hypogonadism).
Joe Whittaker, Principal Researcher for Dietitians, told Sun:
“In our study, a high-protein diet lowered testosterone, so it is very likely that sperm count will also be reduced and male fertility will be reduced.”
Low testosterone is also associated with chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease.
This paper, published in the journal Nutrition and Health, describes the effect as “protein poisoning.” This is when the breakdown of proteins into ammonia becomes toxic.
It suggested that the body could focus too much on correcting protein poisoning and suppress the production of testosterone.
“It takes a week or two to see the first signs of protein poisoning, such as nausea, diarrhea, and low testosterone, including related symptoms such as decreased libido,” Whittaker said.
How much is “too much” meat?
For the study, Whittaker and colleagues summarized the results of 27 studies, including 309 men.
As a compromise, a high-protein diet, which tends to be low in carbohydrates, has been found to consistently affect testosterone and increase cortisol.
In a protein-rich diet, 35% of calories came from proteins such as meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, legumes, and legumes.
For a man who eats 2,500 calories per day, this means that he is eating about 865 calories in protein.
For example, three eggs for breakfast, chicken breast for lunch, and 250g of ground beef for dinner.
Whittaker estimates that about 1% of men eat this much protein, saying, “Most of the time, men try to build muscle and rely on a lot of protein sway.”
“Body builders and weight lifters (even regular gym amateurs) are notorious for their dedication to dieting and may achieve this. [35 percent] “Sometimes,” he said.
“By the way, I’ve heard many men complain of mild symptoms of protein poisoning, such as abdominal pain and diarrhea, when trying to be bulky.
“Proteins that exceed 35% for more than 2 weeks are dangerous areas.
“It may be safe for some, but it’s not well-studied and little research suggests it’s harmful.”
Whittaker recommended sticking to a protein limit of less than 30%, or 15-25% if you’re trying to start a family.
He added: “Reduce alcohol, stop smoking, exercise regularly, lose weight as needed, and be rich in all raw, nutritious foods such as meat, fish, eggs, fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes. Eat the food contained in.
“Avoid processed foods such as pesto and foods high in sugar.”
Eating protein is very important and has many benefits, such as repairing muscles and maintaining a feeling of fullness for longer.
That’s why it’s so much loved not only by the bodybuilding community, but also by people trying to lose weight.
Many celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, LeBron James and Megan Fox are promoting them.
And they are the basis of Atkins and the more modern ketogenic diet.
The British Nutrition Foundation states that it recommends the amount of protein per day based on the amount required per kilogram (kg) of body weight.
“For adults, this is 0.75 g per kg of body weight. Current recommendations are 56 g / day for men and 45 g / day for women (based on a weight of 75 kg for men and 60 kg for women).
“In the UK, on โโaverage, men eat about 85g of protein and women eat about 67g of protein a day.
“So, on average, we eat more than we need. Most of us may be getting enough protein.”
Moderation is the key to take-out.
