A healthy diet has long been a way of life for Kaitlins and Ricky Weiers and is now a local business venture.
Spouse is 1307 Ligonier St in Latrobe from 4 pm to 5:30 pm on Thursday. The grand opening will be held at the new storefront of R.Klean Meals in.
A couple in Delhi Township started their business near the end of 2020 by ordering customized healthy meals online. About a month ago, they added a storefront backed by a new commercial kitchen. There, customers can get a packaged grab-and-go version of the popular menu item.
One of the top sellers is the cheeseburger bowl.
“It’s all minced lean meat on top of rice, diced tomatoes, onions and light cheddar cheese,” Kaitlin Weiers explained. “There is a light sauce of pickled cucumbers.
“There are many ways to slim down a recipe. We like to take regular recipes and make thin versions of them.
“We use fresh ingredients and season everything, but no heavy oil or butter. Usually everything is gluten-free.”
Other popular items on the menu include chicken meatballs, protein shakes of various flavors, and protein pancakes for breakfast.
According to her, the pancakes “contain oats, egg whites, low-fat cottage cheese (all naturally high-protein items) and vanilla and cinnamon. Served with turkey sausage.”
Wires and her husband, who exercise regularly, adopted a healthy diet to complement their regimen. She is also a part-time runner as a finance manager.
He works as a train conductor when he’s not busy in R. Klean Meals’ kitchen. A weightlifter and heavyweight bodybuilder, he won the 2019 National Athletic Meet Pittsburgh Bodybuilding Tournament overall.
Ricky Wires took a break from bodybuilding to spend time building a healthy eating business for the couple. His dietary requirements for sports helped inspire ventures.
“We had ideas for years, and we finally got the right opportunity,” he said. “I had a friend who had been eating for them and wanting to cook for them for years.”
He and his wife calculate the calories and protein, fat, and carbohydrate content of each dish they prepare, as they do on their own.
“I learned a lot through my coach and weighed my meals every day for a year in a row,” he said. “We did so much that it became natural.”
Since R. Klean Meals did not include any dietary choices, Kaitlin and Ricky Weiers addressed social distance requirements during the covid-19 pandemic, one of the major handicaps faced by traditional restaurants. Was avoided.
For those looking for a takeaway meal, Kaitlin Weiers said, “They don’t have to rely on fast food because we’re helping them provide healthy choices.”
