In recent years, law firms have established consulting or internal departments aimed at complementing law firms’ legal services, developing new business lines, and engaging with a variety of clients in highly competitive markets. ..
Crowell Health Solutions is one of the leaders in consulting firms, HHS, expecting law firms to work with clients they already have relationships with and attract new clients.
Potential customers include technology companies and traditional healthcare organizations that are innovating in the healthcare market, she said.
Daniel is heading a new shop with Janet Walker, formerly an in-house lawyer at Ascension for the Private Medical Systems, and Troy Barski, a former director of the Technology Payments Policy Division at the Medicare & Medicaid Service Center.
Other law firms such as McDermott, Will & Emery, Manatt, Phelps & Phillips are also somehow advancing into healthcare consulting.
Rather than servicing the entire healthcare market, Daniel said Crowell’s new unit is aimed at areas such as digital health, value-based care and health equity.
Crowwell has been considering this venture for several years, but the COVID-19 pandemic “reveals significant transformational opportunities within healthcare,” Walker said. She said health fairness is one issue that “has come to the forefront.”
The pandemic has also led to increased investment in digital health technology, along with changes in government policies and regulations on innovation and health care, Daniel said.
