Regan Grimes is looking to take the Men’s Open Bodybuilding by storm heading into the 2022 Olympia, December 16-18 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 29-year-old Canadian powerhouse started pumping iron at 17 and has packed some serious size as her third Olympia approaches. In particular, he has a severe back spread. In a series of recent Instagram posts, Grimes busted out one of his intense back workouts.
Although still under 30, Grimes has over a decade of bodybuilding experience and does a variety of workouts that don’t limit his back day to traditional deadlifts and T-bar rows. In an intense back session, Grimes utilizes his four exercises: single-arm cable lat pulldowns, cable pullovers, machine high-lows, and standing hammer strength mid-lows. Check it out in the breakdown below.

Seated Single Arm Cable Lat Pulldown
Using a rotating chest handle, Grimes performed two warm-up sets followed by two working sets, aiming to fail within the 10-15 reps range. Grimes puts all of his energy into each workout, but also appreciates the great support his training partners provide.
Great help when your training partner is squeezing the muscles you are working on.
Grimes and coach Andy Velcich jokingly called this approach HOTT (Hands-On Training Technique).
cable pullover
Grimes did two warm-up sets and two working sets using D-ring handles. Cable His pullover isolates the lats and works them in an upright position as they require shoulder extension. Grimes leaned forward a bit and slowed his movements down to maintain more time in the tense state.
machine hi-lo
Grimes did one warm-up set and two working sets. A pattern emerged as his rep range to failure remained at his 12-15 rep range. The underhand pulling motion worked the back and biceps. Compound exercises are great for adding mass to your low lats.
Grimes felt the burn as it appeared to be a 90 kilogram (198.4 lb) load. The lats, trapezius, rhomboids, teres major, and biceps were activated.

Standing Hammer Strength Mid-Low
Grimes remained motionless, performing one warm-up set and two working sets in the 12-15 reps range, to no avail. Grimes used one of his arms to stretch his hips forward as far as possible to strengthen his hips. This ensured that his latissimus dorsi muscle worked through its full range of motion from stretch to peak contraction.
Traps and lozenges worked as he repeated each line. Grimes avoided using momentum, ensuring that each row was performed with constant tension on the working muscle.
Regan Grimes back workout
Grimes shared the entire back workout in a series of Instagram posts covering each of the above exercises individually. Additionally, on August 27, 2022, Grimes shared on her Instagram that she was the heaviest she had ever been, with the scales hitting him at 290 pounds (131.5 kilograms). He’s in the process of shredding to reveal the progress he’s made in the offseason.
It will be exciting to see the results of his work on the Olympia stage in 2022, as his muscle mass appears to have increased significantly. He finished 15th in 2020 and 2021.
