Beebe Healthcare’s Weight Loss Surgery Center opened a new suite at Georgetown Health Campus on Friday, March 11th.
The weight loss team is headed by a board-certified surgeon, Drs. Tarek Waked, MD, FACS, FASMBS, and Christopher Manieri, DO, and registered nutritionists Kimberly Hyatt, MPH, RD, LDN.
They see patients at a center on Biden Avenue, Suite 205, 21635 in Georgetown. Soon, surgery will be performed at a state-of-the-art specialized surgical hospital on the Rehobos Health Campus, which will open in May 2022.
“We are very pleased that patients and team members will now have access to this wonderful space at the Georgetown Health Campus and the Specialty Surgery Hospital in May this year,” said Waked. “We offer all kinds of obesity treatments at Beebe, and patient comfort and experience are our top priorities.”
To make a reservation, please call (302) 260-7360. The Health Campus also offers walk-in care, primary care, labs, imaging, women’s health and physical rehabilitation.
The care team treats obesity-focused patients as a complex illness. It’s not a cosmetic issue, Beebe representatives say. “This is a medical problem that increases the risk of other illnesses and health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and certain cancers.”
They said there are many reasons why it is difficult for some people to avoid obesity. Obesity usually results from a combination of genetic factors, hormonal imbalances, environment, personal diet and exercise choices.
Obesity is diagnosed by your healthcare provider and is classified as having a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher. Almost 40 percent of Americans are obese.
“The Beebe Center for Weight Loss Surgery is where patients find a weight loss journey partner. Many patients have tried to treat this themselves with diet and exercise. In some cases, patients only need diet and exercise. We haven’t succeeded in losing weight, so Beebe’s team joins us. ”The Center has been designated as a Certification and Quality Improvement Program (MBSQIP) for Metabolism and Obesity Surgery. The accreditation recognizes the Obesity Surgery Center, which sets national standards for quality and safety care in place to optimize patient outcomes.
“Education and support are an important part of the decision to undergo obesity surgery,” Manieri said. “The whole team here is playing a role and we are spending time considering all the important healthcare decisions. Meet more patients and be healthy in our wonderful new space. I look forward to helping them along their journey into life. “
Patients can talk to their primary care provider about weight loss surgery to see if they are candidates for referral to Beebe’s weight loss surgery center. Those interested in participating in life-changing surgery practice can get more information by setting up a virtual consultation or requesting a consultation. Beebe also offers webins and seminars for future patients.
