Every other day a new name appears as “Diet Trends”. We all find it fascinating and the thought of trying it is always crossing our minds. So why is this? Because it promises to use shortcuts to reach your goals in less time. One trend, the “raw food diet,” claims to reverse diabetes. Although this method is gaining a lot of popularity now, it has been around for a long time.
What is Raw Food Diet?
A raw food diet, often referred to as raw or raw vegetarian, consists mostly or entirely of raw, unprocessed foods. Proponents believe that cooking food is harmful because it destroys the nutritional content of the food.

Can a Raw Food Diet Reverse Diabetes?
- First, cooking foods reduces their nutritional content, but you can always minimize losses.
- Diabetes can be managed with a balanced diet and lifestyle changes. You don’t have to limit yourself for the rest of your life to manage your diabetes. Make sure you mix foods properly so that your blood sugar doesn’t spike. A balanced diet contains adequate amounts of carbohydrates, protein, fiber and good fats.
- Happy gut, you’re happy, right? A diet of raw foods disrupts the gut because raw foods are difficult to digest and interfere with the composition of the gut microbiota.
- Fiber is also very important when talking about gut health and diabetes. Raw food diets are very high in fiber, and excess fiber leads to gas, bloating, discomfort, and cramps.
- What if you didn’t wash your food thoroughly and ate it raw? Today, pesticides and fertilizers are being used extensively. Cooking food can inactivate or kill certain harmful bacteria and reduce the harmful effects of pesticides.
- Balance is necessary for a healthy life.
- Fruits: Wash fruits well, eat them raw, chew them well, do not juice them.
- Vegetables: Meanwhile, cook vegetables as usual and enjoy them in soup, subji, or stir-fry form.
- Legumes: Legumes should be well soaked, well cooked for good digestion, and combined with complex carbohydrates.
- Carbohydrates: Cook and consume whole grains. A raw diet urges you to avoid processed foods, but so does a balanced diet. To manage gut health and diabetes, you should avoid processed and packaged foods that are high in refined sugars, simple carbohydrates, sodium and additives.
Finally, it is very difficult to meet your daily nutritional needs if you follow a raw diet. With diabetes cases on the rise in India, the focus should be on holistic lifestyle management such as a balanced diet combined with physical activity for sustainable change rather than shortcuts and gimmicks. .
