Jerry Diaz, a National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer, says it’s difficult to follow sustainable and sustainable weight management.
“We must start by recognizing areas that we need to improve, including the types of food we eat,” he added.
He said he would help clients who want to lose weight make plans based on their daily schedule, fitness level, and nutritional intake assessments.
When starting a fitness journey, weight loss shouldn’t be the only goal, Diaz added.
“But if your doctor recommends it, there is a safe way to approach this goal,” he said.
He recommends a slow, gradual weight loss of 1-2 pounds a week.
He said there are many diet plans that help individuals lose weight, but they usually end up in hunger and misery.
This is not a sustainable approach, and Diaz says it is the main reason why individuals find it difficult to follow a healthy eating program.
“It’s important to follow a sustainable and functional weight loss routine,” he reiterated.
One tip that Diaz shares is to eat less refined carbs. These include refined sugar and starchy foods.
He recommends replacing refined carbohydrates with whole grains. This reduces hunger and calories.
He added that the low-carb diet program burns stored fat as energy instead of carbohydrates.
But it’s also important to remember that low carbs aren’t suitable for everyone and can lead to a “yo-yo diet” for some, Diaz said.
“It’s always important for individuals to talk to their doctor about recommendations before embarking on a weight loss journey,” he added.
Diaz also recommends a balanced diet that contains proteins that help maintain muscle mass while losing weight.
And at the end of his list is to follow a consistent exercise schedule. This helps individuals lose weight faster, he said.
A weekly strength and conditioning training schedule is great for beginners, but ideal for experienced individuals 3-4 times a week.
Individuals can start by consulting with a certified fitness trainer. Again, it’s imperative to discuss your new fitness plan with your doctor.
