The benefits of telemedicine skyrocketed under health emergency declarations during the pandemic. Congress has since voted to expand these interests.
However, due to the convenience and affordability of today’s healthcare, more and more companies are offering medical services without insurance.
This month, Texans can now visit a doctor through delivery service Amazon. . A doctor can then call you the same day. One visit he is $30 and no insurance required.
said Dr. Nworah Ayogu, Chief Medical Officer and General Manager of Amazon Clinic.
More tech companies and doctors are figuring out how to ditch insurance to provide healthcare.
Direct primary care, like Meridian Springs, charges a monthly fee to increase access to doctors. Again, no insurance required. The monthly fee for Meridian Springs is $75 per person, or $160 for a family of four.
Feeling sick after Thanksgiving, the weekend, or after hours? Just text them!
Need a prescription? they can do that too.
Other tech companies are also growing rapidly with a range of drugs that can be obtained cheaper.
Mark Cuban founded his own pharmacy called the Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company. The Dallas-based company promises to offer prescriptions at a fixed margin of 15%, so you can get drugs tens, if not hundreds, of dollars cheaper.
Dr. Renee Dua has opened a similar online pharmacy where patients pay a subscription fee. For $25/month, Renee.com gives you access to hundreds of common prescriptions.
“Diabetes meds, high blood pressure meds, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, depression, cancer, birth control, men’s health,” Dr. Dua explained. “Even if a patient is on seven medications and he covers five of them, it’s a lot cheaper to work with us.”
These options are not for everyone. If you have intensive care for cancer or a severe chronic illness requiring dialysis, this is not for you.
But it shows that companies are desperately looking outside the box to make common health problems more affordable and compete with traditional health services.
