Millions of British have become more adventurous with their meals, thanks to food postings on social media.
In a survey of 2,000 adults in the UK, 60% searched recipe videos online, and 9 out of 10 recreated multiple dishes at home.
Freshly baked oats were the most popular “how-to” recipe, followed by folded tortilla sandwiches, feta pasta, salmon bowls, and cloud bread.
This research was commissioned by Able, a wellness platform that matches users with comprehensive wellness coaches.
It was revealed that 42% said that social media made them more adventurous in the kitchen.
However, while many users are looking at social media recipes for health reasons (47%), there is also widespread confusion about what is actually healthy to eat.
Carolyn Nicholas, Able’s Certified Health Coach for Functional Medicine, said: Increase fat with mayonnaise of wild salmon and avocado oil and store this for dinner.
“The recipe also includes Sriracha, which has a high sugar content.”
In addition, four out of ten respondents who considered freshly baked oats to be healthy appeared.
However, Carolyn said: “This is the same as eating dessert for breakfast. Despite not adding sugar to the recipe, this can still be hyperglycemic due to the type of oats, bananas and chocolates used. ..
“If you’re looking for foods that will help you lose weight, it’s not a good idea to start your day with this.
“In the meantime, only 20% think Feta Pasta is good for you, but it has a lot of potential.
“Some healthy adjustments are to reduce the portion of pasta. Even better is to replace it with healthier alternatives such as zucchini and squash noodles. Stick to good quality oils such as olives and avocados. And try adding more greens. “

But foodies are clearly willing to eat healthier-more than half (54%) said they believe social media recipe videos should be equipped with a “calorie counter.”
And one-fifth goes to the point of asking the coach if they have access to the calories in the food trends seen in social media.
