Basic
Grippūl Two is an upgraded version of the original Grippūl finger training device released in 2016. The package includes an aluminum mounting plate (Grippūl), a black quad crimp, and 5/16 inch bolts. The Black Quad Crimp comes in four variations on a 20mm edge: flat edge, slope edge, 15 degree edge and 30 degree edge. There is also an 11mm flat crimp on the back of the Grippūl. The Grippūl has three screw holes and can be fitted with various other holds 3-5 inches wide. The six large holes around it, on the other hand, allow the device to be attached to a carabiner or sling in a variety of configurations.
Strong Points
Versatile // Skin-friendly // Lightweight and compact, can be stored // Low price
Disadvantages
Requires assembly (you will need a 5/16 inch hex wrench to screw in and loosen the hold)
Our thoughts
The Grippūl Two is the most versatile finger training device I have ever used. The simple design allows for complete freedom. Lightweight, stowable, endlessly adjustable, it can be attached to a bar or tree for hanging or chin-ups, or a cable pull or weight for grounded exercise. You can also replace the default black quad crimp with a pinch or slope. This complete customizability enables a more targeted and systematic finger training session.

I first started training at the Beast Fingers Climbing Gym in Denver last fall. Jim is run by Aman Anderson, a climbing coach and inventor of Grippūl and Grippūl Two. Intrigued by his finger training protocol, in late December I began to roughly test his recommendations. I just switched protocols based on what I wanted to train and the desired effect. Anderson first announced Grippūl in 2016. (Since then, three generations have been released and the latest Grippūl Two was announced in 2017.) The first iteration was similar to the original, but with a wooden crimp. It is mounted on a plate with 3 rim mounting points instead of 6 instead of resin. Anderson introduced upgrades based on customer feedback, modified bolting patterns, added textures, and reduced weight.
With Grippūl 2, six rim holes allow six different mounting points, making it easy to rotate Grippūl towards the other side of the Black Quad Crimp. It also has three screw holes in the center for easy replacement of holds of slightly different sizes. These features mean that you can hang Grippūl anywhere and use any grip type to focus on training specific muscles and tendon tissues. Compared to the fingerboard, Grippūl offers much more versatility.
Training specificity
Nowadays, my reliance is on one-handed hanging, usually the 15 degree edge of the black quad crimp. Hanging the gripp from the bar means using more stable muscles compared to using an attached hanging board. You can use a pulley system and a small plate, or you can use a pulley system and a resistance band to lose weight. Resistance can be accommodated by attaching a sling to the resistance band and fixing the band to the floor or a nearby bar. In other words, if you pull hard on the band, you will lose weight, and if you pull hard, it will be a difficult set.
I like to use one-handed hanging and one-handed deadlift systems alternately, and use Grippūl and Black Quad Crimp to lift the weight off the ground. You can also do this exercise in response to resistance by fixing the resistance band to two points on the floor and placing a weight under the resistance band at the midpoint of the band. Eventually it will perform the same one-handed deadlift, but it will add resistance from the band and will increase when you lift everything off the ground. This method moves the stable muscles of the hands and wrists to control weight and provide faster gain.
They say diversity is the spice of life. I love that Grippūl Two has so many training options. In addition, I’m getting stronger and stronger. Since using a variation of the above routine for the past two months, I’ve been able to get rid of 3 pounds from an assisted one-handed suspension. Within the first month of training at Grippūl, I found that small crimps felt much easier. At that time, I didn’t do endurance training on the wall, but it seems that my stamina while climbing has improved.
application
In addition to training in the gym, Grippūl Two is perfect for warming up in rocky mountains. You can attach it to the sling and secure the sling to a lower draw or tree to warm up your finger or activate your finger before attempting a red point. You can also attach Grippūl to the resistance band. Step on the band and pull upwards. Here, 11mm crimping is convenient and you can adapt your finger to the small crimping of your project.
Black Quad Crimp is resin-based and has a wood-like texture. It’s soft, smooth, and just a little sticky. It’s nice that the skin isn’t too rough, as Grippūl can weigh tons due to the deadlift of the fingers.
For just $ 49, Grippūl Two is very affordable (most hangboards are $ 80-150). Small and light (15 ounces), you can take it anywhere from the gym to the rocky mountains, from the walls of your house to your backyard. Given the many things available, Grippūl Two has become my new favorite finger training device.
