Powerlifting and safety are inextricably linked, but not for those who attend this unfortunate gym in Mexico these days. After trying to lift £ 400 at the Gym Fitness Sports Center in Mexico City, a woman died and a barbell crushed her in just a few seconds.
The clip begins with the man adding weight to the barbell. A woman (35-40 years old) tried to crouch and lift a 400-pound barbell on a Smith machine in front of her daughter. While pressing her neck against the bench, her heavy weight falls on the woman, which appears to have killed her instantly.
Many were shocked to find that there was only one spotter on the left side of the woman. Her daughter and the man who found her tried to release the lifter, but failed. Her weight was attached to the Smith machine, so she shrugged her shoulders in front of her and couldn’t place it freely.
After the incident, many people rushed to her help after the weight hit her neck. In the horror display, her lifeless body falls to the floor from a sitting position after helping a bystander lift her weight from her neck.
Risk of improper lifting
Not only is proper shape essential when pulling large amounts of weight, but proper spotters are also essential. This situation is the worst scenario and emphasizes the importance of safe practice in the gym. USA Crime shared a video on its Instagram page on Monday.

When it comes to powerlifting, gyms are often a hotspot for injuries. With the spread of social media, sharing strength feats within the gym is now a reality. A by-product of that atmosphere is egolifting. Egolifting is a term used to describe a lifter who is lifting more weight than necessary and is rapidly increasing the load. It’s impressive that you lift heavy weights and there are no spotters, but you are more likely to get injured.
Last year, powerlifter Larry Wheels was involved in a horrific accident that could have ended even worse. Bodybuilder Ryan Crowley suffered a career-threatening injury after an accident on the bench press. Fortunately, Wheels existed and found a bodybuilder just in time to avoid catastrophic damage. However, as a result of the accident, his pectoral muscles fell off the bones.

Even experienced spotters do not guarantee safety. At the time of this writing, the prosecutor’s office has begun an investigation and details will be announced in the coming days. The owner of the gym was temporarily arrested while authorities were collecting information and the identity of the deceased woman.
Fitness Volt would like to extend our deepest condolences to the affected families and loved ones, especially their daughters in the field.
