The latest trending exercise hacks include equipment that has been a staple in the gym for years.
Tall and impressive, it rises higher than any other cardio machine. Inclined walking on a treadmill looks like a breeze. You guessed it: we’re talking about stair climbers.
Last year, the treadmill got all the glory with a viral 12-3-30 workout. This is a program that requires you to walk at a 3.0 pace for 30 minutes on a level 12 slope. However, TikTok Fitness Personality Camilla Akbas claims that the Staircase Climber Dio Program has additional benefits. She said her secret was to complete the exercise without leaning on the handlebars with her hands.
But does it work? We talked with a sports medicine doctor to find out.
What is training for viral stair climbers?
Training Akbas stair climbers is easy — at least by name. Level 7, 25 minutes, twice a week. I have no hands.
“And the result can be abdominal muscles, which I got,” she said today.
Akbas started incorporating this training into his routine about three years ago when he was trying to get in shape before competing on the pageant. And to her surprise, her trainer recommended that you try StairMaster instead of traditional abs exercises like crunches.
Eight weeks later, she finally saw the results of her abdominal muscles where she was working.
In September, her StairMaster’s “trick” video was first talked about, and since then I’ve seen many people post their results following her advice.
The most important part is to keep your hands away from the handlebars, she said. She uses a stair stepper, but leaning against the rails and putting her weight on the machine doesn’t make the core so active, she said.
Akbas started sharing fitness tips and goals on TikTok two years ago to share some of her own athletic successes with the world.
“What I learned on my fitness trip was what I wanted to see online. I didn’t have that source, so I had to learn it myself,” she said. “Why don’t you share it with others in the hope that you can help someone else?”
Jamaal Banks is another TikTok fitness influencer who shares his love for stair climbers in the video “If you want to lose fat and stay fit, the stairs master is your friend.” did. The bank began incorporating workouts into his routine, and after lifting weights, it became “reliable” for him.
“When I first started it, I noticed such a change in my body composition,” he said. “It was hard at first, and then when I stuck to my body, I started to see more changes in my body.”
Does training for stair climbers work?
Dr. Jordan Metsle, a sports medicine doctor at the New York City Special Surgery Hospital, said steer climbers are full-body aerobic exercise and strength training. And he said that using all the muscles at once like that can really improve your fitness.

“I think it could actually be true,” Metsle said.
Metsle explained that by taking your hands off the stair climber, you need to use all the core muscles to stabilize your body. Climbing the stairs is unstable, so keeping your body upright puts a lot of strain on your abdominal muscles.
