Jamie Anderson became the first female snowboarder to win two gold medals in history. And now she’s looking to third place.
Training for a 31-year-old American for the Beijing Winter Olympics includes following a healthy lifestyle as much as possible to maximize performance and reduce the risk of injury.
As a snowboarder, Anderson often has to train and compete in cold conditions, which puts her body at risk of colds and other infections. According to sports medicine expert Mufaddal Gombera, MD, it also increases the risk of injuries such as muscle tension and tears.
To stop the illness, Anderson’s diet consists of warm and durable food, including fresh and lean oatmeal for breakfast, roast chicken with roasted vegetables for dinner, and a light meal in between. ..
But if she recommended one recipe to stay healthy, Anderson told insiders that it would be a chicken broth soup with vegetables, seeds and spices.
“I think it’s a really good superfood to include in your diet. If you feel a little sick, exhausted, or start to feel pain, it’s great to add,” Anderson told insiders. He talked and added bone soup. “It’s rich in nutrients, easy to eat, good for the intestines, and good for the body.”
Anderson’s Bone Soup Recipe is full of turmeric and ginger
According to Bonnie Taub-Dix, a registered dietitian who is the founder of betterthandieting.com, warm low-sodium broth containing vegetables and herbs can keep muscles warm and reduce inflammation.
It’s what you get from Anderson’s recipe and doesn’t contain meat (other than soup), dairy products, or processed carbohydrates. Instead, it’s a medley of natural plant-based ingredients:
- Chicken soup
- Sunflower seeds
- turmeric
- garlic
- Ginger
- carrot
- celery
- parsley
- coriander
“Turmeric and ginger are very good for your immunity, very good for your body’s inflammation, and very good for digestion,” Anderson said. “With all the nerves and stress of this lifestyle, I like to have some nutritious foods that help calm your emotions.”
The main ingredients of Anderson’s turmeric and ginger are known to help fight pain and illness, as they have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, respectively, and support immune function according to the health line.
Bone broth is generally healthy, but its nutritional value may vary from brand to brand.
Registered dietitian Alix Turof told insiders that bone broth is generally a healthy food, especially when mixed with vegetables, herbs and spices, as in Anderson’s recipe.
“In general, broth has always been associated with having healing properties,” Turoff told Insider. “It’s definitely not unhealthy, so if you enjoy it, it’s a good way to get nutrients. It’s also a good way to rehydrate and replace electrolytes, especially sodium.”
Still, according to Turof and Taub-Dix, the nutritional value of bone broth can vary from brand to brand.
When using a store-purchased route, Turof and Taub-Dix advise:
