A 25-year-old mother from Tamworth reveals the amazing discoveries she made during her striking transformation.
Welcome to You Got This, part of the weekly fitness inspiration at news.com.au, with tips and advice from real women who have experienced it all.
The three mothers have revealed that they managed to lose 33 kg after achieving their goals in the four years since they had children.
Shan Butcher, 25, had just given birth to his first child in 2017 and was fed up with his feelings.
Tamworth’s mom revealed that she wasn’t happy with her choice of “gaining weight” and felt that she was constantly debilitating.
“I didn’t feel comfortable with my skin anymore,” Shan told news.com.au.
“I got some takeaway food, chocolates and soft drinks. I wasn’t educated about food and ate everything.”
Mr. Shan said the over-processed foods she was consuming began to have a negative effect on her body, often making her feel lethargic and lacking in motivation.
“I didn’t have narcissism, I wasn’t confident, I didn’t have the energy to do anything,” she said.
During this time, three mothers now decided to enroll in the online weight loss program Healthy Mummy.
“One day I woke up thinking,’This is enough, I need to change,’ because what I was doing wasn’t healthy.”
Surprisingly, Shan then lost an impressive 17kg in seven months, purely by adjusting her diet.
When she became pregnant with her second child two years later, she gained 14 kg, but in just nine months she lost another 21 kg.
Shan decided to stick to a new lifestyle and did the same after having a third child in 2019.
“I wore 20 kg during my pregnancy, but lost 29.5 kg in 13 months and resumed my lightest journey to date.”
Shan’s transformation resulted in fine-tuning her nutrition and was “shocked” by discovering that exercise did not play a major role.
“When I first started, I had two healthy mummy shakes for breakfast, high-protein foods for lunch and dinner, and two light meals throughout the day,” she explained.
“It was all nutritious. I was shocked because I thought I was just exercising, but most of it was nutritious.”
Shan said he had just begun incorporating training into his daily life nine months ago.
“Until recently I was doing zero exercise. I’m happy with my size and now I’m focused on building muscles and definitions.”
Mothers do weight training six times a week and now take their children aged 5, 3, and 1 to a local gym with a safe playground.
She also aims to walk 10,000 steps a day, saying that the “secret” lies in “organization.”
“Preparing food makes things very easy when you have kids. That’s what I lacked before my trip,” Shan said. “For me, I feed my children, and when I have nothing to eat, I just choose their food.
“I feel I have to be organized, otherwise I can’t keep up. If I’m not ready, it’s going to be difficult.”
Shan said that renewing lifestyle options has created new debt in life.
“It changed my life a lot. It’s no longer a diet, it’s my lifestyle. I love my new life,” she said. “I am very healthy and have a lot of energy.
“I’ve never been so confident in my body. My mental health wasn’t that good either.”
For his fellow mothers who are about to make a difference, Shan said, “Prioritize yourself.”
“It’s not a selfish way, but you also have to take care of yourself,” she said.
“If you fall in the tide, don’t drop it in a bad week or month. Try again the next day.”
