We all love to wear sweaters, grab a mug of hot chocolate, and savor our favorite winter treats while soaking up the sun. Hot parathas are one of those winter delights we can never resist. Layered with ghee goodness, parathas are thoroughly enjoyed with a dollop of ghee or butter on the side. The clip shared by @simratkathuria has already garnered over 162,000 views and 2,000 likes. In the caption, she revealed why parathas are actually better to eat than many other foods. Kathuria says one paratha contains 70 to 80 calories for her, but eating two of Digestive’s biscuits for her could add up to 140 calories to the day. “While biscuits are empty calories, parathas are rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, fiber and healthy carbohydrates,” the nutritionist wrote in the caption.
Dietitian Simrat Kathuria further explained that while parathas may be traditionally sweet, they can be made healthy and nutritious with a little twist. Here are some suggestions she made-
- paratha stuffing – What you stuff your paratha with is equally important in making the dish more nutritious. “Choose high-fiber vegetables for fillings, such as mouri,” she writes.
- Atta’s choice – The atta used in making paratha is also very important for its health index. You can choose a high-fiber flour, such as bran atta, or switch to a completely different flour, such as oat flour.
- Fat percentage – How parathas are cooked can make a difference to their overall health index. I suggested using ghee.
