Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed on Wednesday that “climate change is beyond policy decisions”, explaining that using air conditioning and going to the nearby gym have led to increased energy consumption.
“Some of us prefer to keep the air conditioner switched on at 16 or 18 degrees and also use blankets. We should try to keep the air conditioner at a comfortable temperature. Some people like to work out at the gym, but they drive to the exercise center for that exercise. Why do we just walk? or use a bicycle?” Prime Minister Modi said at the global launch of “Mission LiFE” in Kevadia, Gujarat.
He also praised “globalists” for using LED bulbs to reduce energy consumption. “Our government has launched a scheme for LED bulbs that also involves the private sector. International experts here say Indians have installed over 160 million LED bulbs. You will be surprised to know that it leads to a reduction of 100 million tonnes of carbon dioxide every year,” he added.
