After buying its way into the Virginia market less than a year later, the new Planet Fitness operator is expanding its trajectory with new gyms in Mechanicsville and Bon Air.
Grand Fitness Partners, a franchisee of Planet Fitness with locations in five states, plans to open both its Mechanicsville gym at 7297 Battle Hill Drive and its Bon Air gym at Stony Point Village Shopping Center in late December.
The Mechanicsville gym will occupy the 30,000-square-foot space previously occupied by Best Buy, which will close in 2021.
The Bon Air Gym will be a 17,500 square foot space at 3001 Stony Point Road in what remains of the former Martin’s store next to Trader Joe’s.
Both gyms are equipped with cardio and strength training equipment, rowing machines, locker rooms with showers, and tanning booths.
Thalhimer’s Nicki Jassy and Jim Ashby represented Grand Fitness at the Mechanicsville lease. Jassy again handled the lease on behalf of Grand Fitness at her Stony Point Village Shopping Center, where Ashby acted as landlord.
Grand Fitness continues to look for opportunities to expand further locally, company spokeswoman Donna Marie Hendricksen said in an email Thursday.
“We believe Richmond is certainly a market with growth potential and we will continue to explore sites in areas of opportunity. We plan to add more clubs in 2023,” she said. Told.
Grand Fitness currently operates other Planet Fitness locations in the area at the Colonial Heights outpost at 4951 Nine Mile Road, 9703 W. Broad Street, 11001 Hull Street Road, Southpark Circle 230.
In a deal closed in December 2021, Grand Fitness purchased the locations as part of Asbel Group’s acquisition of the Virginia portfolio of 13 locations, Hendricksen said. The deal marks Grand Fitness’ first foray into Virginia. Terms were not disclosed.
Founded in 2010, the company currently operates 59 locations in Virginia, Florida, California, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Grand Fitness has offices in Virginia, New Jersey, and Florida.
Grand Fitness was formerly known as PF Atlantic Holdings. It has been rebranded as part of a majority investment by private equity group HGGC announced in November 2021.
