Sisters Emelia Whiteacre and Addie Foster started their specialty grocery store out of their offices in the South Main Strip Mall. Hmmm flavor shop.
“After a major family checkup, I began earning continuing education credits as a certified athletic trainer in nutrition,” says Whiteaker. “Unfortunately, many of the herbs, spices and grains of the quality required for their nutritional value were not available.”
Whiteaker reached out to friends who are both registered and certified dietitians to see where they could get spices and dried herbs.
“This led me to a small, family-owned wholesaler in Arizona,” she said. “Our wholesaler freeze-dries as many herbs as possible and orders them directly from the farm to guarantee a higher nutritional content.
“We launched the product at the Home Show in Fort Scott in April,” said Whiteaker. “For the rest of spring and summer we had vendor shows and markets.”
Our office is behind a tractor supply store where Whiteacre runs an athletic training business.
“We have a converted office space inside Momentum Indoor Training that we use as a prep room,” she said. “Our ultimate goal is Mmm flavor shop Supports exercise pools for individuals with chronic medical examinations who benefit from aquatic exercise not covered by most insurance.
They just finished working on their website.
“This month we launched our website www.mmmflavorfs.com, or we accept text orders via Facebook direct message or text message at (620) 224-8442,” she said. “If it’s not in stock, I can usually order it and she’ll have it within a week.”
Products in this business include spices, dried herbs, homemade spice blends, non-wheat flours, ancient grains, rice, dried beans and lentils, instant oatmeal, ready-to-use packs, dried fruits and nuts.
“We mix most spice blends to ensure there are no additives or preservatives,” Whitecar said.
“We also have superfood powders like spirulina, spinach, and acai berry,” she said.
