Bryan, Texas (KBTX) – Schools have reopened, but the stress of knowing what to pack for your child’s lunch can still linger. Glenn Huggins, chef at Bryan’s Little’s Lunches, believes preparing school lunches doesn’t have to be a long process, but having well-balanced lunches and snacks can help keep kids full all day. I think it’s important.
Huggins recommends including protein, starch, vegetables and fruit in your lunch. Chefs say that adding vegetables to their daily lunches for kids who don’t like vegetables will eventually encourage them to try and eat more.
“We just slowly acclimatize our kids to new vegetables and new fruits and it really pays off in the long run,” Huggins said.

When it comes to snacks, Huggins says it’s important to focus on the calorie content and health benefits. For example, sugary snacks make you feel full. Healthy snacks he recommends include Greek His yogurt with a dash of honey, single-serving Ritz His String His cheese with crackers, and Apple His sauce with pretzels.

Little’s Lunches owners recommend packing two snacks. one for the morning and one for the afternoon. Snacks like cookies should be avoided, as eating them before lunch can keep children from eating lunch.
“If the whole lunchbox is well-rounded and wholesome, you know that’s what they’re getting,” Huggins said. I’m not going to leave and skip snacks entirely.”
Here are some lunch ideas Huggins recommends on the go. The chef said it can be made with ingredients many people already have at home.
